This Don’t Feed the Sharks sign is easy to make with the help of your Cricut machine. We used an easel sign that we found at the local dollar store, but you can easily adapt this for any sign you find.
If you swap out heat transfer vinyl for the regular adhesive vinyl, you could even use this design on a t-shirt or tote bag too. There are so many fun possibilities! Free SVG provided.
Don’t Feed The Sharks Sign Made with Cricut
Materials needed:
Cricut Machine
Green Cutting Mat (StandardGrip)
Weeding Tool
Scraper Tool/Burnishing Tool
Scissors
Measuring Tape
12×12 sheet blue Oracal vinyl 651
12×12 sheets transfer tape ( in a pinch, you can use clear contact paper from Dollar Tree, but transfer tape is more reliable and easier to work with)
White Wood Easel (Dollar Tree – they have white ones and wood ones that can be painted with matte white paint)
SVG
Instructions:
Open Design Space. Upload the SVG to Design Space. Measure the easel and size your design accordingly. Remember to make it a little smaller than the sign so it fits well.
Select your entire design and choose Attach.
Place blue Oracal vinyl onto the green cutting mat and burnish well so it sticks down on the mat. Place into the machine.
For your settings, choose Vinyl.
Once the Cricut machine has cut the design, it’s time to weed it. I like to burnish my design to the mat again before weeding. This helps ensure that any pieces that might have been slightly lifted during the cutting process are well-adhered to the mat again, making it easier to weed.
Weed design and then cover with transfer tape. Once again, burnish to ensure that the transfer tape is sticking to the vinyl well. Carefully pull back making sure the design sticks to the transfer tape.
Place the design to the wood easel. Burnish well with the scraping tool.
Slowly peel back the transfer tape making sure the design sticks to the easel. If any part of the design starts to lift, simply press the transfer tape back down in that spot and burnish again.
Display your sign for a fun beach, summer, 4th of July, or shark week theme.
