Cricut Chalky Painted Jars

Filed Under: Cricut Crafts, CREATE, Mason Jar Crafts

These Cricut Chalky Painted Jars are so pretty! They add the perfect farmhouse or shabby chic decor touch to any room. The jars are incredibly easy to make with the help of your die cutting machine and can be made on a Cricut Maker, Explore, or Joy (or other machines such as Silhouette).

Fill them with fresh or artificial flowers and give them as a gift, use them as party decor (wouldn’t they be great for a wedding?) or simply decorate your own home with them. These would be perfect for Mother’s Day, don’t you think?

You can find more Cricut crafts here!

Cricut Chalky Painted Jars

Materials Needed:

  • Cricut Maker (or Cricut Joy or Explore) with Fine Point Blade
  • Standard Grip mat
  • Starcraft Premium Vinyl, Permanent in black
  • Transfer tape
  • 3 Mason Jars with the lids removed, 16oz
  • Scissors
  • Weeding tool
  • Americana Chalky Finish (for Glass) in Lace
  • Paintbrush

Instructions:

Gather supplies.

Thoroughly wash jars with soap and hot water and let them dry completely before using.

Preparing the Mason Jars

Apply a thin coat of chalky finish paint to each of the mason jars. Put aside to dry fully and repeat with additional coverage as needed.

Creating the Text in Design Space

Open a blank canvas in Design Space.

Select the text icon from the toolbar.

Type GROW.

Change the font to “Little White Lies”.

With the word highlighted, adjust the letter spacing to 0.7.

You can resize the word as you’d like. Measure the amount of space you have on the jar for your text and use that as a guide. Or you can use my measurements instead.

Click on the lock symbol above the size section and adjust the height to 2.216 and the width to 3. (if you want to use my measurements)

With the word selected, click Duplicate twice. This will ensure that your other words are the same dimensions as the first one.

Change the other two words to THRIVE and BLOOM.

Highlight one word at a time. Choose Combine (bottom righthand corner) and then you can either choose Unite or Weld. I chose Unite because it’s easy to undo if needed.

Click Make. (upper right corner) Choose on mat or matless – I prefer on the mat. Select your mat size. Click Confirm.

If Cricut brings them in close together, I like to move them apart by clicking and dragging to leave me more room for weeding.

Cutting

For cutting the words, set the material type to Premium Vinyl.

Follow prompts for loading the mat into the Cricut Maker or Cricut Joy and cutting the vinyl. When prompted, unload the mat from the cutting machine.

Remove the vinyl from the mat.

How to Assemble the Jars

Cut around each word with a pair of scissors.

Using the weeding tool, peel away the excess vinyl around the cut images and discard.

Cut a piece of transfer tape a bit larger than the size of the text.

Peel away the transfer tape backing but ensure the transfer tape is not overly sticky. Dab the sticky side of the transfer tape with your hand to weaken the adhesive.

Place the transfer tape overtop of the cut word. Gently rub the vinyl to help it stick to the transfer tape.

Peel away the vinyl backing, leaving just the image adhered to the transfer tape. Position the phrase with the transfer tape on to the smooth side of a jar and press in place.

Press the vinyl phrase down with your fingers to help it to stick to the painted glass jar. Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl image on the jar.

Repeat for the other mason jars.
