This recipe makes one jar but it is very filling and could easily be shared by two people. Or save the other half for another day. You could also divide the ingredients among two smaller jars. Increase quantities for a party.

The “dirt” and “grass” are made in a similar manner to a mug cake in your microwave making this a really quick and easy recipe.

Ingredients:

10 -12 pretzels

1 cup chocolate pudding

1 egg

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

2-3 drops of green food coloring

1//8 tsp. baking soda

pinch of salt

4-5 tbsp. milk

2 tablespoons butter

2/3 cup sugar-coated raisins – if you can’t find these, you could also use any small colorful candies like these chocolate river stones, yogurt covered raisins, or Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Decorative edible items such as gummy snails, chocolate mushrooms, mint leaves, rice paper leaves, icing or rice paper flowers, sugar bumblebees, gummy worms, or rice paper butterflies.

Glass jar (with lid if you want it to look more like a terrarium) – the one I used is about 3 inches tall from the bottom of the jar to the lid and the diameter of the bottom of the jar is about 4 inches.

Instructions

1. Put the butter in a bowl suitable for the microwave and melt it. Beat in the egg. Add salt, baking soda, sugar, milk. stir the mixture.

2. Add the flour. Stir. set aside 5-6 tbsp. of the batter in a separate bowl. Add cocoa to the remaining batter and mix. Cook mug cake 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on full power in the microwave.

3. Add food coloring to the reserved batter and mix. Cook for 1-1 1/2 minutes. Cool.

4. Place sugar-coated raisins in a spacious jar. Prepare snails by securing them to toothpicks.

5. Top with the broken pretzels.

6. Next layer crumbled chocolate mug cake.

7. Add pudding and a layer of “grass” green mug cake. Decorate with fresh mint, snails, chocolate mushrooms and candy.

The jar can be covered with a lid and served as a terrarium. Be sure to serve the dessert with a long-handled spoon so that you can reach the bottom of the treat.
