I’ve love crocheting ever since I watched my grandmother seemingly just moving her fingers to work magic and create beautiful clothing and home decor items for us. This crocheted puff flower reminds me of the ones she would put in the center of each granny square she made and turned into an afghan for me.
You could certainly use it for a similar purpose or add a pin-back to it to turn it into a brooch. I can picture a collection of these adorning a purse or tote bag too. What would you use these crocheted flowers for?

Step 1:
Select a colored yarn for the center of the flower and another colored yarn for the petals. Start with the yarn selected for the center part. Start with a slip knot and then work 4 chain stitches.
Step 2:
Form a ring or loop with the 4 chain stitches by working a slip stitch through the first chain/ slip knot.
Step 3:
Chain 1 and then work a single crochet through the ring/loop.
Step 4:
Work a total of 12 SC (single crochet) through the ring.
Step 5:
Finish the center by working a slip stitch through the first Sc of that round. Pull out a small amount of yarn strand and cut it off from the bundle.
Step 6:
Take the yarn selected for the petals. Insert the hook through the top chain of any one of the single crochet stitches.
Step 7:
Yarn over and pull the new yarn strand through. Work 3 chain stitches.
Step 8:
Yarn over the hook.
Step 9:
Pull through the same stitch of the center.
Step 10:
Pull the yarns on the hook and level the length of yarns with the 3 chain stitches.
Step 11:
Do the same 2 more times through the same chain.
Step 12:
Work 2 more pulled/ stretched double crochet through the next chain stitch of the center.
Step 13:
Insert your hook through all the loops on the hook. Yarn over.
Step 14:
Pull through all of the loops.
Step 15:
Chain 1 on hook.
Step 16:
Work a slip stitch through the next chain stitch of the center.
Step 17:
Work 3 chain stitches.
Step 18:
Work 3 pulled/stretched DC through the same chain stitch like we did for the first petal.
Step 19:
Work 2 more through the next chain stitch.
Step 20:
Insert hook through all the loops, yarn over and pull through.
Step 21:
Work a slip stitch through the next chain stitch and then work 3 chain stitches.
Step 22:
Repeat the process and crochet the 6 petals.
Step 23:
After completing the 6th petal, insert the hook through the first chain stitch of the center.
Step 24:
Work a slip stitch through the first chain stitch and then pull through a small length of the yarn.
Step 25:
Keep an inch of the yarn and then cut off yarn from the bundle.
Step 26:
Use tapestry needle or crochet hook to secure the remaining amount of the yarn on the backside of the crochet flower. Simply weave it over and under the back stitches to complete the flower.
You can glue a small bead to the center of the crochet puff flower to give it a nice and finished look.
