DOLLAR STORE LEPRECHAUN GNOME

Make learning FUN on St. Patrick’s Day with this adorable Dollar Store Leprechaun Gnome craft.

Using craft sticks and a mop from your local dollar store create this quick and easy Leprechaun Gnome with the kiddos in just 30 minutes. This is such a fun craft and a great way to work on shapes, colors, cutting, and counting. Your kids will have such a good time making this!

DOLLAR STORE LEPRECHAUN GNOME CRAFT

Supplies needed:

  • Craft Sticks, Jumbo – Dollar Store
  • Cotton Mop Head – Dollar Store
  • Wooden Ball or Bead
  • Craft Foam – Yellow, Green
  • Buttons – Green
  • Ribbon – Rainbow Striped
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Bright Green, Black, Orange
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Dollar Store (NOTE: You can use liquid craft glue instead if that works better with your kids. It will take longer to dry.)
  • Gallon Zipper Bag
  • Garbage Bag
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Ruler
  • LEPRECHAUN GNOME PATTERNS

Instructions:

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies. Cut approximately 30 individual strings from the cotton mop head with scissors. Get them damp under running water, squeeze the excess water out, and place them in a gallon zipper bag.

STEP TWO

Squeeze orange acrylic craft paint into the bag, then zip it closed.

Squish the paint into the cotton mop strings until they are all coated.

Turn out the orange mop strings onto a garbage bag, and set them aside to dry.

STEP THREE

To create the leprechaun’s hat, line up five jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the hat and attach them with glue.

Flip the hat over and glue one jumbo craft stick to the hat base to create the brim. Trim one jumbo craft stick to the width of the hat to become the hat band.

STEP FOUR

Basecoat the entire leprechaun’s hat with bright green acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP FIVE

Download, print, and cut out the LEPRECHAUN GNOME PATTERNS. Trace onto yellow craft foam with a pencil, and then cut out with scissors.

Glue the black hat band to the hat. Attach the buckle to the center of the hat band with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP SIX

Flip the leprechaun hat over and attach 15 cotton mop head strings along the base of the bottom wooden craft stick with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Glue 15 additional cotton mop head strings on a second layer.

STEP SEVEN

Glue the wooden ball to the top center of the leprechaun’s beard.

Trace the shamrock pattern onto green craft foam and cut it out with scissors.

To finish, attach a green button to the center of the shamrock.

Secure the shamrock to the leprechaun’s hat with a glue gun and glue sticks.
