DOLLAR STORE YARN-WRAPPED CRAFT STICK SHAMROCK SIGN

Supplies Needed:

  • Craft Sticks, Jumbo – Dollar Store
  • Yarn, Green, White – Dollar Store
  • Natural Jute Twine – Dollar Store
  • Gingham Ribbon, Black – Dollar Store
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Low Temp Works Best (NOTE: You can also use liquid white glue for this if you prefer but it will require more drying time)
  • Corrugated Cardboard – Scrap
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Dark Brown
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper Towel
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • YARN-WRAPPED SHAMROCK PATTERN

Instructions:

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies. To create the sign, line up seven jumbo craft sticks on your work surface.

Attach a jumbo craft stick to the top and bottom with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP TWO

Basecoat the sign with watered-down dark brown acrylic craft paint. Paint quickly and then remove the excess paint with a paper towel.

This will give the craft sticks a stained appearance. You can also use washable markers, crayon, or even colored pencils to color the jumbo craft sticks if you’d prefer.

STEP THREE

Download, print, and cut out the YARN WRAPPED SHAMROCK PATTERN. Trace the shamrock onto a scrap of corrugated cardboard with a pencil.

Carefully cut out the shamrock with scissors.

STEP FOUR

Gather several colors of yarn. This project uses green and white. Tie the two ends of the yarn together in a knot and attach it to the back of the cardboard shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP FIVE

Start wrapping both strands of yarn around the cardboard shamrock in a random fashion. Continue wrapping and securing every fifth or sixth wrap with a small dot of glue. Keep on wrapping the yarn around the shamrock in a haphazard manner until you can no longer see any cardboard.

Tie the two ends of the yarn together in a knot and attach it to the back of the cardboard shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP SIX

Measure and cut a 12” length of natural jute twine with scissors. Flip the sign over and attach the ends of the twine to the top right and left-hand sides with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP SEVEN

Attach the yarn-wrapped shamrock to the craft stick sign with a glue gun and glue sticks. Press down firmly in the center of the shamrock to make sure that adheres well.

STEP EIGHT

Tie black gingham ribbon into a bow. Cut a notch from the ends of the ribbon tails to prevent fraying. Attach to the top of the sign with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Your St. Patrick’s Day shamrock sign is ready to enjoy!
