Remove Your Items

The first step in creating the closet of your dreams is to remove every item. Once you have everything laid out, you can begin working through piles to determine what you do and don’t want to keep. Once you’ve figured out what you no longer wear, sort the items into a donation pile.

Additionally, if you have a lot of seasonal clothing items that you can wear for only a few months out of the year, you may want to store them outside of your closet. By doing so, you can free up precious space for in-season outfits. Plus, your closet will feel more streamlined if it contains only a curated selection of items.

Invest in Storage Solutions

The next step in knowing how to declutter the clothes in your closet is to invest in high-quality storage solutions. After you’ve determined which items you want to keep, you can organize them as neatly as possible. Purchase non-slip hangers in a singular color to create a uniform look for your hanging items. Use clear storage bins of various sizes to house purses, scarves, belts, and other small accessories. You can also invest in a shoe rack to both organize and display every pair.

These small improvements can make a big difference regarding the overall functionality of your closet. Plus, you can take advantage of your vertical space and store items you don’t often reach for on a higher shelf. The goal is to keep your closet as tightly edited as possible, so do your best to eliminate any type of visual clutter.

Regularly Reassess

An important step many people often neglect is regularly reassessing their wardrobe. Every few months, you should be pulling out your items to determine whether they still bring you joy. One of the benefits of keeping your wardrobe simple is you can be confident that everything you own fits well and makes you feel good. When you like every item in your closet, it’s much easier to get ready for the day.

A good rule of thumb is to perform a closet declutter at the beginning of every season. Once the climate changes and you start reaching for different types of clothing, you can easily identify any items that no longer serve you. Additionally, if you haven’t reached for an item in over a year, get rid of it.

With these tips and tricks in mind, you’ll be able to create and maintain the closet of your dreams. If you’re intentional about what you bring in and remove from your wardrobe, you’ll be able to dress with style and confidence every day.
