Well, here we are at the very last Summer Fun Friday for this year. I hope you have found some fun ideas for your kids throughout this series. Today, we have a fun unicorn craft idea as well as another freebie for you.
This craft can be made with items you probably have on hand or can pick up at your local dollar store. In the free printable, you’ll find a word search, color by number, paper crown, finger puppet, I Spy, and a paper plate craft all unicorn-themed!

Materials needed:
Empty tin can that has been washed and with the label removed. Be sure there are no sharp edges – you can use some sandpaper to smooth them down if needed.
Acrylic craft paint in your chosen color for the unicorn’s face (you can also paint on the snout, nose, nostrils, and eyes instead of gluing them on if you prefer)
Paintbrush
Scissors
Yarn – you will only need small amounts of leftover yarn from other projects for this. We like using a variety of bright colors. Instead of (or along with) using the yarn, you could also glue on colored pompoms.
Construction paper or felt – white and pink (we used two shades), black, and yellow. Again, you will only need small pieces leftover from other projects.
Instead of using black paper/felt for the eyes, you could use googly eyes instead.
White glue
You might want to have a glue gun on hand as well. We found this worked best for the unicorn’s hair.
Instructions:
For the unicorn’s head, paint a tin can using any color you’d like. We like to use acrylic craft paint for this.
Cut out a semi-circle for the snout area. You can use construction paper or felt. Use whatever you have on hand! Glue this onto the tin can at the bottom edge of the can as shown in the picture.
Wind up several pieces of yarn in different colors. You can wrap it around your hand or a piece of cardboard. Tie them off with another small piece of yarn near one end of the loops of yarn. Glue these onto the tin can.
Trim off the bottoms of the loops of yarn. Be sure to let the glue completely dry before trimming or you may pull the hair back off of the unicorn. We like to have the hair form a sort of rainbow right around the front of the unicorn’s face from ear to ear.
Cut out a horn for the unicorn and two ears using the paper or felt. We used two shades of pink for the ears but that’s not absolutely necessary. Do whatever you’d like!
Make a set of eyes for your unicorn. You can cut them out of black paper as pictured here or use googly eyes.
As a final touch, you can add an oval cut out of construction paper or felt for the nose. Glue onto the white snout. Then, using the black paper/felt, cut smaller ovals and glue them on as nostrils.
Let this dry thoroughly. You can use it as a pencil cup or plant pot.
