When I was little, my grandmother Ma’s home was filled with lovingly handcrafted doilies. I remember them gracing nearly every surface. They were on her dresser, coffee table, and even the television. Even back then, I remember looking at them, their lacy designs absolutely enchanting me.
I inherited quite a few of those doilies and I treasure each and every one. They carry her memory in every stitch. This simple crochet doily pattern is my way of honoring those delicate heirlooms.

FAQS for This Crochet Project Tutorial
What size yarn is best for this doily pattern?
I used yarn to give this project a chunkier, more modern aesthetic. If you want a more traditional, lacier look try a size 10 cotton crochet thread.
What crochet hook should I use?
I use a 4 mm hook with yarn but recommend a 1.5 mm to 2 mm steel hook for size 10 thread. Always check your tension and adjust as needed.
Can I starch my finished doily?
Yes! I didn’t find the need when making these with yarn but you might want to if you’re using the thread. Lightly starching helps maintain its shape. You can use commercial spray starch or a homemade solution of water and white glue.
How long does this take to make?
Depending on your pace and experience, you can probably make one of these in under half an hour.
Is this a good project for beginners?
Absolutely. While it includes a few classic stitch variations, this doily is a gentle introduction to the world of thread crochet.
