Hard to imagine my life without Reilly! The minute he came into our house, he became a member of the family. His sweet disposition and overwhelming enthusiasm for life made him a great fit for our family. All that being said, though, he has presented some interesting challenges—from eating pantyhose and having to have emergency surgery because the hose perforated his stomach to eating my daughter’s sandals….every single pair! Yes, he has definitely been a challenge!
The biggest challenge we have faced with Reilly came last year when he dug a hole under our neighbor’s fence and then proceeded to eat some of the prized plants from her garden! By the time I got into her backyard the RIGHT way, he had eaten one of her ferns and was starting on her daisies! That started a series of maladies unlike anything I have ever witnessed with a dog. He developed a chronic runny nose and a nasty cough. I thought it was just a reaction to having eaten something out of her yard. He became quite lethargic and ate sparingly, but when he couldn’t seem to stop scratching, I knew this was not going away on its own. I got him an appointment with the vet and we tried countless rounds of steroids and antibiotics all to no avail.
After months of trying one thing after another, the vet suggested allergy testing. What a shock it was when I saw the list of things to which our sweet Reilly is allergic! Grass, pollen, and many plants are just a few of the things his little body can’t handle. The worst allergen, though, is for grains – all grains — and the allergen is so great that the doctor couldn’t believe it hadn’t surfaced earlier. After all the medications and special shampoos, it turned out that Reilly’s problems had absolutely nothing at all to do with his foray into someone else’s yard. Instead he was suffering from the very food I had been feeding him….food that I thought was great food….food that promised to make his coat shine and keep him healthy. That very day, I vowed to become more educated about healthy dog food, and that is how I found Natural Balance.
After trying a multitude of foods that promised to be grain-free or low in grains but netted the same “itchy” results, I came across Natural Balance Delectable Delights Wet Cups and Reilly has never been better. The runny nose, cough and incessant itching have been replaced with an energetic and boisterous enthusiasm all because of these little tubs of delight. Reilly loves all four flavors but his absolute favorite is the Surf and Turf, a tuna and chicken mixture with pumpkin and green beans. About twenty minutes before his dinner, Reilly goes to the cupboard where I keep the food and stands there waiting for me to pull out one of those tubs and whether I serve it by itself or mixed with some of the Natural Balance dry food, he practically inhales every morsel. Natural Balance Delectable Delights Wet Cups, you have been a lifesaver for us! Thanks so much for giving us our happy and energetic dog back!
