Back in October, I was fortunate enough to attend Blissdom Canada 2012. It was a fun event and I learned a lot but I have to say that the highlight of the whole thing was the #ChevyBliss Sunday Excursion to the GM Plant in Oshawa. Here we are being greeted by some of GM’s friendly faces. We were so grateful to them for putting on this event. The GM plant functions 7 days a week so being able to be there on a Sunday was a BIG DEAL. AND it meant having employees who gave up their Sunday off to be with us. That should show you right there what kind of commitment they have to GM! Based on all I saw, their commitment is well deserved too!
Here I am with my local blogging buddies Wanda, Paula, and Margarita. It was so much fun to attend this conference with them and to share so many great experiences. We talked and laughed and had a wonderful time! All of us really enjoyed our day at GM and there was a great deal of excited conversation about it on the way home.
Look how we were spoiled by GM! Lots of snacks, candies, and these fantastic water bottles – you can put fruits or veggies in the insert and then fill it with water. The water gets subtly flavoured with the fruits/veggies. It’s delicious, refreshing, and good for you! Thanks GM!
We started our day learning about the latest innovations in GM products. Some of what we were getting to see was so new that it wasn’t even out on the market yet! I was really impressed with GM’s commitment to safety – they’re constantly trying to make their vehicles the safest possible and I was wowed by the extent of the safety features available. The other functions that impressed me the most were the technological advances the company is making. Things like being able to lock and unlock your car with an app on your cell phone, being able to set a timer for charging your electric car from your phone, and more are just some of the innovations coming to us from GM. Again and again throughout the day, I felt like they were truly listening and responding. to the needs of their consumers!
Here we are trying out the feature which helps you avoid backing into stationary objects. There is a sensor that lets you know when you get too close to an object and automatically brakes for you if you fail to brake in time yourself. Love it!
Here you can see a water truck getting the pavement soaking wet. Why? So we could see how another GM safety feature worked. We drove through the water first without any skid control on and threw the car into a spin. (The adrenaline junkie in me loved this!). Then we put on the ABS and Stabilitrak skid control and did it again. The car automatically corrects and takes us right out of the spin. It was amazing!
We got to try out a variety of GM vehicles and I was thoroughly impressed by the performance of every one of them. You would think that after being in that sweet Camaro convertible pictured above, I’d be saying that was my dream car but although it was amazing, I actually fell in love with a different vehicle. The Chevy Volt impressed me more than I can possibly find words for! The Volt is an electric car which pleases not only the tree hugger in me but the frugal part of me as well. Imagine how low my fuel bills would be! The majority of my driving is local and I’d have no problems functioning on electricity 95% of the time. But what about those trips out of town? Well, the Volt would have me covered there too! It has a backup generator so that you can gas up just as you do with other cars and drive as far as you want! The Volt had all the power and engine pickup that I could possibly want and performed beautifully in the test drive. It was comfortable and had all the safety features and bells and whistles I could hope for. If I wasn’t sold on GM before this day, I certainly am now and I’m definitely sold on the Volt!
GM treated us like queens and kings – even providing us with a delicious lunch from the Gourmet Bitches food truck. They have a clear vision of who their customer is and are very transparent in their dealings. They were open to questions and extremely well informed about their products. It’s clear that besides being leaders in automobile manufacturing, GM has customer service and public relations figured out. I felt very welcome there and feel like if I ever had a question or a concern, it would be readily dealt with! I’m definitely a GM fan!
