One of the best things about the fall season is the Halloween events! Whether you’re into scare-your-pants-off haunts or something a little lower on the scream-o-meter, you can find it within a short distance of London. Here are a few of our favorite London area Halloween Haunts. Note: Some are extremely terrifying and not for the faint of heart. Be sure to do a little research before bringing the kiddos!
Storyspook Village 2018
From October 19 through October 29, Storybook Gardens in London is running Storyspook Village, a spooky event that is perfect for those with little ones. In the evenings, the park is transformed into an eerie Halloween wonderland. You’ll find things like singing pumpkins, rides, mazes, and lighting effects. Wear your costumes – they’ve also got trick-or-treating!
Frightmares Home Haunt
The scariest home haunt in London awaits you and your family this Halloween. The Haunted House and food drive benefits Crouch Cupboards. One of the great things about this haunted house is that there are kid-friendly non-scare hours from 3-6pm and then “no mercy” hours after 7pm. You can go with your kids in the afternoon, drop them off at Grandma’s house, and go back in the evening! The event runs October 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 31.
Midnight Village: Hangman’s Harvest at Fanshawe Pioneer Village
From Saturday October 20th to Sunday October 28th, Fanshawe Pioneer Village will present its annual Halloween ghost walk/play. In this year’s production, public servant John Radclive has a dirty job: hanging society’s rogues and murderers. Come hear tales of London’s first (and second) hanged man Cornelius Burleigh; notorious cop-killer Marion “Peg Leg” Brown; Kate Gardner, the only local victim of serial killer Dr. Thomas Neill Cream; and many others. What holds them all together is a date with the gallows, either as spectacle or spectator. Recommended for ages 14+.
Fear Farm
If you’re looking to be scared half to death, you’ll love Fear Farm! The 2018 season begins Sept 28th in Bright. It doesn’t matter if you’re afraid of ghosts, clowns, men with chainsaws, or zombies. They’re all at Fear Farm! The farm features 6 different haunts that ensure a screaming good time! There is also food and a beer tent – you may want to save that for after your haunting experience!
Reaper’s Realm
Ghosts and ghouls are everywhere on the Reapers Realm Haunted Forest Ride in Courtright. Based on a local legend, the haunt focuses on the lost Souls that have returned to avenge the cutting of their forests to make for farm land in the 1800s. The terrifying event is held outdoors, so plan accordingly! Other attractions at Reaper’s Realm include Reaper’s Putt Putt and The Vault of Terror.
The Great Pumpkin Trail
At Royal Botanical Gardens, hundreds of jack-o-lanterns greet you and lead you through the garden. This is a family-friendly event, fun for even the littlest of littles. On the agenda is live entertainment, pumpkin-themed activities, and face painting. The event runs October 25 and 26 in Hendrie Park beginning at 5:30PM.
Do You DARE? The Haunted Mansion 2018
We couldn’t complete this list of London area Halloween Haunts without a haunted inn! From October 26-30 you can explore the haunted Grosvenor Lodge of London room by room. Hotel staff claims that this is an event that you will never forget! If you dare to be spooked, prepare to never be the same again! The tour lasts about 20-30 minutes and includes an escape room. Like the Frightmares Haunt, there are daytime hours for younger guests and nighttime performances for those 13 and up. The small admission fee benefits historical Grosvenor Lodge and Elsie Perrin Williams Estate.
Whether you’re the type to run from your own shadow or face your fears head on, you’re going to have a great time exploring these London area Halloween Haunts!
