It is the perfect time of year to go out and have an amazing day at the beach with your family. There is absolutely nothing comparable to a dip in the water, sand between your toes and relaxing in the sun. It’s so relaxing! But with all that swimming and playing and other fun (or simply the heat of the sun!_ you’re going to get hungry. Beach-side dining options can be extremely expensive, very limited, or non-existent. So, it’s a great idea to pack a picnic to enjoy during your fun in the sun. Packing the ultimate summer beach picnic is the best way to get the most out of your next day at the beach.

How to Pack the Ultimate Beach Picnic

Beach Umbrella

A beach umbrella is imperative to your summer beach picnic. No one wants to sit in a mound of sand and eat while they roast in the sun. It is far more comfortable to be able to enjoy your meals and snacks in the shade. Alternatively, you could get one of those beach tents to use.

Large Blanket

Just as you don’t want to sit and eat in the sun, you want to avoid sand around your food. Pack a large blanket that you can lay out under the umbrella. This will help to avoid that pesky sand in your sandwich, and other places you would rather it not be while you’re eating.

Wipes

Make sure to pack hand wipes with your picnic. Things can get a little messy at the beach, so you will want to be able to clean your hands before enjoying your lunch.

Food to Pack

Skewers

Food on skewers always make for more fun. There are so many different options to choose from. You can go with meat, veggies or even fruit. Get creative with your recipes and try things like: Greek Salad Skewers, Strawberry Caprese Skewers with Balsamic Glaze or even Traditional Caprese Salad Skewers with a Balsamic glaze. This is a great way to have a sand-free meal that is easy to eat, utensil free and easier to clean up.

Pasta Salad

Pasta salads are a delicious side dish to bring to a beach picnic. There are many different varieties that you can make to bring along and they are easy to eat, delicious and filling. A delicious Greek Pasta Salad is a fun twist on a side dish. If you are looking for something less traditional, a Tortellini Salad is a fantastic choice. Not feeling the pasta? Try this Three Pepper Salad instead.

Wraps

If you are tired of regular sandwiches, try packing wraps to take with you on your beach picnic. Not only are wraps delicious but they are more practical for a beach picnic because everything is safely tucked in the wrap and won’t fall out into the sand. Or you could try a muffuletta. I’ve got a really easy and delicious muffuletta recipe here.

Fruit

Something as simple as a fruit tray can serve as a great snack. Pack some chocolate sauce and serve it for dipping for a delicious dessert.

If you want to have the ultimate summer beach picnic this year, get prepared ahead of time with the food and essentials you need to have some fun in the sun!
