Happy International Women’s Day!

You know, I love me some girl power and I love me some yarn bombing so this event made me smile. To celebrate International Women’s Day & National Women’s History Month, DIY expert Michelle Villemaire is yarnbombing Los Angeles! How awesome is that?
Her colorful street art will honor important women in history – and show others how art can be used to make a difference for those less fortunate. Yarn pieces from the display will be made into blankets for homeless women in Los Angeles. What an amazing initiative! I’ve always known that art had power and that it could be used for so much good in the world. This is a prime example.
This year’s yarnbomb details:
- On March 5, the yarnbomb will grace 33 trees along a stretch of Monument Street, just north of Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, CA.
- Each tree is named and dedicated to a different woman in American history.
- After two weeks, the yarn pieces will be collected and turned into blankets to donate to a local shelter dedicated to helping women and their families transition out of homelessness.

Helping in this monumental (pun intended) cause are Lion Brand, who is donating an ample supply of yarn, and property owner, Rick Caruso, who is providing use of the land for the yarnbomb. Michelle, along with local volunteers, will enrich the landscape of Pacific Palisades with bright hues to bring awareness and attention to the plight of homeless women in and around Los Angeles.
