Do you buy your pets toys? Of course, I have from time to time but man, they don’t seem to last very long. Either the pet’s interest wanes or they tear it apart or they lose it. I hate putting too much money into them but I still want them to stay active and have fun. DIY options are fun and inexpensive. Get the kids involved and let them make some toys for their best furry friends. This DIY plastic spoon cat toy is a perfect example of something that can be whipped up in very little time and for very little money. All of these supplies were available at my local dollar store and you’ll have much more than you need . Make extras to give to your friends’ and family’s cats too!
DIY PLASTIC SPOON CAT TOY
Caution: As with all pet toys, your cat should be supervised while using this plastic spoon cat toy. If any parts become loose, broken, or lost, remove the toy from your cat and repair or throw it away. Also, consider your cat’s personality before giving them this toy. Hocus Pocus simply bats at toys like this but Patches would have been very likely to try ripping it apart from the moment it was given to him. Good choice for HoPo; not so great for Patches.
Supplies:
- Plastic spoon
- Roll of ribbon
- 2 pipe cleaners
- 4 small pom poms
- Hot glue gun (Be sure to supervise the use of glue guns with your children. With younger kids, they could substitute tacky glue.)
- Scissors
Instructions:
Step 1. Cut one pipe cleaner in half and the other in thirds.
Step 2. Wrap the pieces of pipe cleaner around the spoon handle. (Bend the very ends over so that they don’t cut the cats.)
Step 3. Use the hot glue to secure the pom poms in a vertical line down the oval part of the spoon.
Step 4. Unroll the ribbon and lay it flat. Apply hot glue to the back of the spoon and pay it on the end of the ribbon as shown. Clip the ribbon to the length you want.
Step 5. Hang for your cat to enjoy!
