I’m so excited for the next Disneynature release – Monkey Kingdom coming out just in time for Earth Day. I’ve always loved monkeys. They’re so cute and playful and yet demonstrate such affection and family ties with one another. Of course, it didn’t hurt that every time we went to the zoo, my dad would always make monkey faces, gestures, and sounds at the monkeys there! I even collect stuffed monkeys as a special fun reminder of my love for monkeys and my love for my dad.
Monkey Kingdom is all about Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is changed forever when she welcomes her son Kip into the family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colourful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world.
When their long-time home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighbouring monkeys, Maya’s whole family retreats. Maya finds she has to use her street smarts and ingenuity to uncover untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings so that she and her son can survive. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock.
For every ticket sold opening week (April 17-23, 2015), Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats.
