I was never a big fan of April Fool’s Day when I was younger – ok really, in some ways I’m still not a fan. I probably shouldn’t admit this but I’m kind of gullible – not so gullible when it comes to strangers to I fall for scams (in fact I’m kind of cynical there and sometimes see everything as a scam!) and not gullible when it comes to political, social, or health claims but gullible when it comes to people close to me.
My friends and family have come to me, baring their souls, divulging their deepest darkest secrets and just as I’m fully into “supportive and caring mode”, they burst out laughing at me. (Did I ever tell you about the time my daughter came home at about the age of 17 and told me she was pregnant?).
What I do like about April Fool’s Day is taking the day to be silly and light-hearted. In my classroom, we did things like Backwards Day and with my daughter, I would do silly dinners where the main meal looked like dessert and the dessert looked like dinner. We’d play silly games, learn magic tricks, and make crafts with a twist – like something hidden in it or something that changed into something else.
So if you need some fun last minute ideas to add some silliness to your April Fool’s Day, here are some I’ve gathered from around the internet. Warning: some of these contain some pranks that I will not accept responsibility for – if you choose to send a fake parking ticket or IRS audit letter to someone, you are ON YOUR OWN!
