Step-by-Step Instructions:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Measure and cut a 3” by 2” section of heavy-weight cardboard. Place a 20” length of yarn across the top of the cardboard, and then wrap the yarn around the cardboard 75-100 times.
Tie off the top of the tassel, cut the bottom of the tassel, and remove it from the cardboard.
Measure and cut a 12” length of yarn and tie off a section approximately one inch from the top to create the tassel.
Use scissors to trim the ends of the tassel.
STEP TWO
Rotate the tassel so that the fringe end is at the top. Attach two wiggle eyes to the top edge of the ball section of the tassel with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP THREE
Measure and cut red cardstock into 2 1/4″ by 8” rectangles using a paper trimmer.
Punch a hole in the top center of the bookmark, thread the yarn ends from the tassel through the hole, and then tie in a bow. This will attach the Thing head to the Thing body.
STEP FOUR
Download and print the bookmark patterns onto white cardstock. Cut out Thing 1 and Thing 2 emblems with scissors and attach them to the front of the bookmarks with the adhesive runner.
To finish, cut out the Dr. Seuss quotes with a paper trimmer and attach them to the back of the bookmarks with an adhesive tape runner.
This is a fun activity to keep the kiddos busy with counting, cutting, and motor skills. This is a great craft for tweens and teens to create or to help the littles with.
