Snowman Cheeseball

Filed Under: Christmas, Appetizers, CELEBRATE, Cheese, COOK

I’ve been making a Snowman Cheeseball for Christmas for many years now. It’s incredibly easy to make and just so darn cute!

Serve it with raw vegetables, crackers, and/or breads like baguette slices. This looks adorable and so festive when placed in the middle of a cheese board or charcuterie tray.

Some useful tips and variations:

You can easily vary the cheeses – use a variety including Parmesan, Monterey Jack, mozzarella as well as the cheddar if you want – and you can mix some into the cream cheese mixture if you’d like. If you mix it in and are concerned that rolling it in the shredded cheese will be too much, you can always roll it in sesame seeds or sliced/slivered almonds (or crushed) or something like that.

Want it to be more on the sweeter side? Leave out the Ranch, chives, and garlic and mix in some dried cranberries (try about 1/3 cup or so), about 1/3 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts, and a tablespoon of maple syrup. If this is for adults only, you could add about a tablespoon of Port wine too.

At times, I’ve made arms for the snowman out of celery stalks and used raisins for the eyes, mouth, and buttons instead of the peppercorns. You can also cut a sliver of carrot or cucumber and wrap that around his neck as a scarf. If you want to make a hat, stack circles of pumpernickel bread or crackers. Use toothpicks to hold it in place.

Snowman Cheeseball

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Chilling Time: 2 hours

Servings: 10

Ingredients:

4 oz. Sharp white cheddar cheese

12 oz. Cream cheese softened

2 Tbsp. Fresh chopped chives

1 Tbsp. Ranch seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tsp. Minced garlic

Whole black peppercorns for garnish

1 Baby carrot for garnish

Instructions:

Grate the sharp white cheddar cheese with the smallest setting on the cheese grater to get it as fine as possible.

In a bowl, stir together the cream cheese, chives, ranch seasoning, garlic and salt and pepper to taste until well combined.

Spread the finely shredded cheddar cheese out on a plate.

Form the cream cheese mixture into two balls, one larger than the other.

Roll the two balls of cream cheese mixture in the finely grated white cheddar cheese to coat them well.

Stack the smaller ball on top of the larger one on a parchment lined plate, and chill in the freezer for at least 2 hours or until firm.

Garnish with black peppercorns for the eyes, mouth and buttons of the snowman, and cut the baby carrot into the shape of a snowman nose.
