This charming crocheted accessory not only keeps your place in style but also makes for a thoughtful gift for fellow bookworms (or if you’re like me, book dragons). It’s quick and easy to make and I love to have a few on hand to give out as last minute gifts.

DIY Crochet Bookmark
If you’re an avid reader like I am, this is going to be a great craft project for you to make. Follow the step-by-step tutorial below.
This is also a great way to use up leftover yarn from other projects, being a small crochet project. You can make a bunch of these and give them out to everyone you know!
List of Supplies for this Handmade Flower Bookmark:
- Yarn – medium or medium-light
- Crochet hook – 3.5mm
- A pair of scissors
- Tapestry needle
Stitches used:
- Magic ring or magic loop
- Chain stitch ch
- Single crochet sc
- Double crochet dc
- Half Double Crochet hdc
- Slip stitch ss/ sl st
- Treble crochet tr

This pattern is beginner-friendly, utilizing basic stitches like chain, single crochet, and treble crochet.
How long does it take to make one bookmark?
Depending on your crochet speed, on average it will take between 30 minutes and one hour.
What size crochet hook and yarn weight should I use?
I used worsted weight yarn and a 5.5 mm hook. You can certainly use different weights and sizes to increase or decrease the size of your flower bookmark.

Instructions:

Step 1:
Select yarn for the center of the flower and start by making a magic ring.

Step 2:
Chain 2 and work 11 hdc into the magic ring.

Step 3:
Pull the open end of the magic ring to close it.

Step 4:
Insert the hook in the first stitch of the hdc row, make a slip stitch, and cut the yarn.

Step 5:
Take a different colored yarn. Insert the hook through any stitch of the previously made ring pattern. Yarn over the hook.

Step 6:
Pull the yarn through the stitch.

Step 7:
Work 3 chain stitches.

Step 8:
Work a treble crochet into the next stitch.

Step 9:
Repeat it for 3 more times into the same stitch. There should be 4 treble crochets into that stitch.

Step 10:
Chain 3.

Step 11:
Slip stitch into the next stitch. One petal of the crochet flower is ready.

Step 12:
Repeat step 7 to step 11 to make 4 more petals around the magic ring center.

Step 13:
Work a slip stitch into the last stitch and pull about an inch of the yarn. Cut off extra yarn and tuck/ stitch the remaining end of the yarn on the backside of the crochet pattern.
Crochet leaf:

Step 14:
Attach a green-colored yarn through any chain stitch of the magic ring base, between 2 petals.

Step 15:
Yarn over and pull through the stitch.

Step 16:
Chain 7.

Step 17:
Skip the first chain stitch and do a single crochet.

Step 18:
1 hdc into the next chain

Step 19:
1 dc into the next stitch

Step 20:
1 hdc into the next stitch

Step 21:
1 sc into the next stitch.

Step 22:
Slip-stitch into the last stitch and then turn to the other side of the base chain.

Step 23:
Repeat this pattern (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, ss) to complete the other half of the leaf.

Step 24:
Slip stitch into the base chain.

Step 25:
Slip stitch along the center of the leaf in each hole in each chain and reach the flower part again.

Step 26:
Make 45-50 chain stitches to make the crochet flower pattern’s stem (bookmark part).

Step 27:
Make a small tassel from green-colored yarn.

Step 28:
Attach the tassel to the open end of the chain stem to complete the bookmark.
