Craft Stick Reindeer

We just love reindeer! They are such beautiful animals and such an important part of the story of Santa Claus. So, of course, we like to make reindeer crafts like this craft stick reindeer at this time of year.

Using simple supplies from your local dollar store, you can create this quick and easy Craft Stick Reindeer with your kids in just half an hour. Make some for your own home and to give as gifts.

Craft Stick Reindeer

Supplies needed:

  • Craft Sticks, Jumbo
  • Craft Sticks, Regular
  • Tinsel Pom Pom, Red
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Sponge Dabbers
  • Gingham Ribbon, Green (or ribbon of your choice)
  • Permanent Marker, Black
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (*You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to allow extra drying time.)
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Medium Brown, Pink, Dark Brown
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Step-by-step instructions:

STEP ONE

Gather all your supplies. Begin by lining up 5 jumbo craft sticks side by side. You might want to put down a silicone mat or a piece of waxed paper or something in case any glue seeps through. Using scissors, cut the additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the reindeer. Attach them with your glue gun and glue sticks.

Then, using scissors, trim the two discarded pieces of jumbo craft sticks into pointed reindeer ears.

STEP TWO

Cut four regular craft sticks in half with scissors. Attach four of the halves, at angles, to one full-size regular craft stick with your adhesive. Repeat with the second set of halves and one full craft stick to create the antlers.

STEP THREE

Paint the front and sides of the reindeer and its ears with medium brown acrylic craft paint. Let this dry. Apply a second coat of paint if needed.

Paint the front and sides of the antlers with dark brown acrylic craft paint. Let this dry. Apply a second coat of paint if needed.

STEP FOUR

Attach the two antlers to the back of the reindeer with adhesive. Turn the reindeer over and glue the ears to the top right and left sides. Glue a large red tinsel pompom to the center of the reindeer about one inch from the bottom to form a nose. Then, attach two googly eyes.

STEP FIVE

Tie the ribbon into a small bow. Using scissors, trim any long ends in a triangle pattern. Attach the bow to the bottom of the Reindeer with a glue gun and glue sticks. Trimming the ends of the ribbon not only finishes the bow, but it also prevents the ribbon from fraying.

To finish the Craft Stick Reindeer, create cute little cheeks with pink acrylic craft paint and a sponge dabber. Allow the paint to dry. Then, draw half a smile with the permanent black marker.

When you work with your kids to create this adorable dollar store popsicle stick reindeer, they will practice shapes, counting, colors, and fine motor skills like painting and cutting. Craft projects like this make learning fun! Make a whole herd of reindeer and add names to them with a marker to use as fun place cards for Christmas dinner.
