Toilet Paper Roll Snowflake Ornament

Filed Under: Kids' Crafts, CELEBRATE, Christmas, CREATE, paper art, Winter

Create a snow flurry of fun with this toilet paper roll snowflake ornament. We made a bunch of them and hung them in the front window along with these glitter pipe cleaner snowflakes and popsicle stick snowflakes. It was such a pretty display!

These are easy and inexpensive to make since the base of them is a toilet paper or paper towel roll. You can leave them as is or paint them. We left some the natural color and then painted others shades of blue, white, gold, and silver. Basic craft paint works just fine for this.

To find all the details for how to make these, check out the tutorial below. If you’re going to paint them, I found it easiest to paint them once fully assembled as then I was able to get both the outer and inner pieces more easily.

List of Supplies:

  • Empty TP roll
  • A pair of sharp scissors
  • Acrylic paint if using
  • Paintbrush if using
  • String
  • Bead
  • Hot glue – if making these with kids, you can use white craft or tacky glue but it will require extra drying time and they will need to hold the pieces until the glue sets a bit.

Instructions:

Step 1:

Take an empty TP roll and flatten it neatly on a flat and even surface.

Step 2:

Cut out some strips (0.75cm) from the flattened TP roll.

Step 3:

Take any 3 strips and fold them in half.

Step 4:

Slightly open the inner space of the strips after making the half folds.

Step 5:

Join the closed ends of the folded strips and form a 6-point star shape.

Step 6:

Take 3 more strips.

Step 7:

Cut the strips into 2 even parts and you’ll have 6 strips.

Step 8:

Fold a strip in half.

Step 9:

Fold in the open ends to the middle.

Step 10:

Now, form a V shape with the current pattern.

Step 11:

Similarly, prepare the rest of the 5 strips.

Step 12:

Join the small V shapes between every 2 points of the base shape.

Step 13:

Take a few more strips and cut each strip into 4 even parts. Fold the strip in half.

Step 14:

Apply glue and join the open ends of the half-folded small steps between the medium strip parts.

Step 15:

Once dry, paint if desired. Let dry completely. Attach a bead to the center of the snowflake pattern.

Step 16:

Attach a ribbon or string loop to the final craft to complete the ornament.
