Flower Granny Square

When I think back to the cozy evenings spent watching my grandmother crochet, granny squares are one of the first things that come to mind. Ma had this way of turning simple scraps of yarn into something that felt like a warm hug.

This crochet flower granny square brings that same sense of comfort and joy. Whether you’re just learning or you’ve been crocheting for years, this easy-to-follow pattern lets you whip up a sweet floral square perfect for spring blankets, cheerful bags, or even home décor.

Best of all, this DIY crochet flower block is beginner-friendly and comes together quickly because creativity shouldn’t feel complicated.

What yarn and hook size should I use?

Worsted weight yarn and a 5 mm (H-8) crochet hook work well for this pattern, but feel free to adjust based on your preference or scrap yarn stash.

Yes! This pattern is written with beginners in mind. If you can make a magic ring, double crochet, and chain, you’re all set.

Definitely — play with different colors for petals and centers to match your style or the season!

Can I use these granny squares to make a blanket?

Absolutely! These flower squares are great for patching together a cozy afghan. Just make as many as you’d like and join them with your favorite method.

What else can I make with these flower squares?

They’re perfect for pillow covers, tote bags, scarves, or even stitched onto a denim jacket for a custom touch. Ma even made them into a vest for me! There are more ideas in the printable below.
