This Father’s Day keychain is quick and easy to make by kids of most ages. It will be a welcome gift as Dad can not only use it to carry his keys around and keep them organized, but every time he uses them, he will be reminded of the loving care that went into making the keychain.
You can easily adapt this project to various age levels. Be sure to check out our ideas for variations you could do with different age groups to make the project more suitable for them.

Father’s Day Keychain
Optional Variations:
For preschoolers, instead of markers, give them pre-cut foam shapes, sequins, or other small decorations to glue on.
If they’re older, give them colored markers, glitter glue, extra sheets of craft foam and other such craft materials. Let them go wild creating their own decorations to embellish the keychains with.
When it comes to preteens and teenagers, in place of the craft foam, you can always use some faux leather for a more high end look. They could use any of the materials as suggested for the other age groups, but you could also add puff paints to the mix.

- A sheet of craft foam or faux leather (additional colors if you want to use some as decorations)
- Markers for decorating and adding a sentiment (Note: depending on the brand of craft foam you use, you may need to use permanent marker)
- Scissors
- Glue – I recommend Aleene’s Tacky Glue for this or you could use a strong doubled sided tape
- Keyring
- Optional: Other items for decorating such as sequins, glitter glue, puff paint, foam shapes, and so on
Instructions:

Draw a necktie freehand or use a tie template. Add extra space at the top of the tie so you can fold it over the keyring. Cut out the tie.
Fold the top of the tie around the keyring and glue in place to secure.

If you want to write a sentiment on it or, personalize it with the kids’ names or dad’s name, do that next.
Now, embellish your keychain as you’d like. Glue things on, make designs with markers, whatever you’d like to do to show your creativity.
