Are you a Dr. Seuss fan? Me too! My favourite book when I was little was Are You My Mother? It’s often one of the things I give someone as a baby gift. I used Dr. Seuss books in my classroom too. The colours, rhymes, and rhythms were fun for the kids and really helped them develop their language skills too. So, this project for Dr. Seuss Thing 1 Thing 2 photo frames was really fun to make. It’s perfect for someone who has twins – like my adorable twin grand-nephews pictured above.
Or if you don’t have twins, you could use this for any pair of kids, friends….or maybe even your pets? It’s almost time for Dr. Seuss’ birthday (coming up on March 2nd!) and to celebrate, I’m taking part in another week of Craft Lightning projects – Seuss Edition – crafts that you can make in under 15 minutes (minus drying time). When I found out that my niece was having twins, I started looking around online for some cute little twin gifts. I saw a pair of adorable red sleepers that said Thing 1 and Thing 2 on them and that’s what inspired these photo frames.
DIY Dr. Seuss Thing 1 Thing 2 Photo Frames
Materials Needed:
I’m using two of those basic wooden frames from Michaels – here in Canada they run about $1.50 each. Other items you’ll need are red and white acrylic craft paint, a paintbrush or two, a circle stencil (or use clear Contact paper and a circle punch to make your own), turquoise duct tape to make stripes that hint at the colour of Thing 1 and Thing 2’s hair (or how about gluing on a stripe of glitter instead? Or maybe a string of pompoms?),good non-stick scissors for cutting the duct tape and Contact paper. You’ll also need a black fine tipped marker, black puff paint, or letter stickers for labelling the frames.
Super Simple Instructions:
Simply cover the frames with red paint. Let dry thoroughly. Apply the turquoise stripes and use your circle stencils to paint on white circles.
The last step is to write “Thing 1” and “Thing 2” on the white circles and add photos of the cutest little twins in the world!
