Craft Stick Valentine Rocket

Filed Under: CELEBRATE, CREATE, Dollar Store Crafts, Valentine's Day

How cute is this Craft Stick Valentine Rocket? Your kids will get a kick out of making this quick and easy craft project. They come together in about half an hour using supplies you can likely find at your local dollar store.

This cute Valentine project is simple enough for pretty much any aged child to make. You might want to use liquid craft glue instead of a glue gun – just remember to add additional drying time.

DOLLAR STORE CRAFT STICK VALENTINE ROCKET KIDS CRAFT

Materials:

  • Craft Sticks, Jumbo
  • Craft Foam, Red, White, Pink – or colors of your choice
  • Heart Doilies, Red, Pink, White
  • Felt Heart Stickers – or cut your own out from craft foam or construction paper
  • Glitter Foam Hearts – or cut out your own from craft foam, felt, or construction paper
  • Washable Marker, Black
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Low Temp Works Best (can substitute liquid craft glue)
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Red, Pink, White – or colors of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • VALENTINE ROCKET PATTERNS

Instructions:

If making these with a group or younger children, I suggest cutting the craft sticks in advance. This step can be tricky and should be closely supervised so cutting ahead of time eliminates that issue.

STEP ONE

Gather all materials needed for this project. To create each rocket, line up four jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the rocket and attach with glue.

Note: Cutting the craft sticks can be a bit difficult for younger kids and may pose a safety hazard. This should be taken care of by an adult.

STEP TWO

Paint the craft stick rockets with white, red, and pink acrylic craft paint or whatever colors you want. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if neeeded.

STEP THREE

Download, print and cut out the Valentine Rocket Patterns. Trace the patterns onto the colored craft foam with a pencil. Cut out all traced rocket part patterns.

Pro Tip: Cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished looking project.

STEP FOUR

Glue rocket parts to rocket base/ Mix and match the colors, if desired. Refer to the photo above for the layering and placement of all rocket parts if you want to use our design.

STEP FIVE

Cut the doilies in half. Glue the half doilies to the back of the rocket on the right and left sides.

STEP SIX

Add felt heart stickers to the front of each rocket. You can use different embellishments instead if desired.

STEP SEVEN

Glue hearts onto the rocket flames as desired.

STEP EIGHT

Using a fine tipped black marker, draw on dots, lines, and stripes to add definition to the rocket. You can use the photos as a guide if desired.
