How to Make a Pineapple from Craft Sticks: Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Craft sticks being glued together to form the base shape of the pineapple.

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies. To create each pineapple, line up five jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the pineapple and attach with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Craft sticks painted bright yellow using acrylic paint and a flat paintbrush.

STEP TWO

Basecoat the pineapples with bright yellow acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. Use washable markers, crayon, or even colored pencil to color the jumbo craft sticks.

Gold diamond pattern painted over the yellow base to resemble pineapple texture.

STEP THREE

Paint diagonal lines with gold acrylic craft paint to create a diamond pattern on each pineapple. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

Pink cheeks and googly eyes added to the pineapple using a sponge dabber and glue gun.

STEP FOUR

Attach two googly eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Create cheeks by dipping a sponge dabber into pink acrylic craft paint and stamping on both sides of the pineapple.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Pineapple Craft

Can I use regular glue instead of a glue gun?

Yes, liquid craft glue works well, but allow extra drying time for it. We recommend a basic craft glue like Elmer’s or Aleene’s.

Is this a good project for developing fine motor skills?

Absolutely! This is perfect for building fine motor skills—cutting, painting, dabbing, and gluing all help develop coordination.

What can I do instead of using felt?

Try green construction paper, foam sheets, or even trace and cut out the leaves from old cereal boxes and paint them green!

I don’t have any googly eyes on hand. What can I use instead?

Just cut eyes out of construction paper, felt, or craft foam. Or you can draw them on using markers.

Can this craft be personalized?

Yes! Offer guidance, but let kids make their own choices, even if their pineapple ends up pink with one googly eye. They can make silly faces or decorations like sunglasses. Or maybe they want to pick their own colors for a rainbow of pineapples!
