Directions

Supplies for Sherpa Ghost Craft including styrofoam cone, pumpkins, sherpa fabric, black felt, scissors, and glue gun.

Prepare your materials. Gather all your supplies before beginning to make crafting smooth and simple.

Removing the pumpkin stem to prepare for assembly in Sherpa Ghost Craft.
Cutting a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin to fit it onto the styrofoam cone for the Sherpa Ghost Craft.
Applying hot glue to the top of the styrofoam cone for the Sherpa Ghost Craft assembly.
Attaching the pumpkin to the top of the cone to form the Sherpa Ghost body.
Pumpkin securely attached to the top of the styrofoam cone for Sherpa Ghost Craft base.

Create the ghost body. Remove the stem from the styrofoam pumpkin. Use hot glue to attach the pumpkin to the top of the styrofoam cone, holding it in place for a few minutes until secure. (Alternatively, you can cut a small hole in the bottom of the pumpkin and slip it directly onto the cone.)

Covering the styrofoam and pumpkin form with white sherpa fabric to create ghost shape.

Add the sherpa covering. Drape the sherpa cloth over the pumpkin + cone form, adjusting the edges until it falls evenly around the base like a ghostly cloak.

Attaching small decorative pumpkin with hot glue to the sherpa fabric folds for Sherpa Ghost Craft.
Attaching small decorative pumpkin to sherpa folds to make the ghost appear to be holding it.
Adjusting the small pumpkin to fit snugly between folds of sherpa fabric for the ghost craft.

Attach the pumpkin accessory. Gently fold a few pleats near the front of your ghost and hot glue the small decorative pumpkin in place so it looks like the ghost is “holding” it.

Finished sherpa ghost craft holding a checkered pumpkin, ready for display.

Give it personality. Cut two oval eyes from black adhesive felt and press them onto the sherpa just above the pumpkin.

Tips & Variations

  • Use mini styrofoam trees or cones to create a whole family of sherpa ghosts in different sizes.
  • Swap the small pumpkin for a trick-or-treat pail or candle (LED only!) for variety.
  • Try beige or cream sherpa for a neutral ghost that fits into fall farmhouse décor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of fabric is sherpa?

Sherpa fabric is a soft, fluffy material that mimics the look and feel of sheep’s wool. It’s cozy, easy to work with, and perfect for crafts that need a warm, textured touch—like this friendly little ghost!

Where can I find sherpa fabric?

You can find sherpa by the yard at most fabric or craft stores, or even in the blanket aisle of Dollarama or Walmart. You can also repurpose an old sherpa throw or jacket for this project.

Can I use something other than sherpa cloth?

Yes! Try fleece, minky, or even an old soft sweater. The goal is to use something that drapes nicely and gives your ghost a cozy, “snuggly” appearance.

What size cone should I use?

A #18 cone (about 12 inches tall) works perfectly for a medium-sized ghost. If you’d like to make a smaller version, use a smaller cone and trim your sherpa fabric to fit.

Can I make this with kids?

Definitely! Just handle the hot glue yourself or swap it for craft glue if young children are helping. Kids can add the eyes or choose accessories for the ghost to “hold.”

How can I display my sherpa ghost?

These ghosts look adorable on a mantel, a shelf, or even as a centerpiece. Try grouping several in varying heights for a whimsical Halloween village look.
