This little guy is positively adorable! Making our Dollar Store Winter Gnome is quick and easy and it will brighten up your holiday decor.
We were able to find all of the necessary materials at our local dollar store (these specifically came from Dollar Tree), making this an economical craft too. Make more than one in different sizes and create a little grouping of them.
Dollar Store Winter Gnome
Supplies:
Sock
Microfiber cloth
Berry Garland
Foam Cone
Wooden Bead
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors
Instructions:
Start by cutting off the bottom section of the sock. This will cover a good section of the cone. With the excess at the top you can either trim it or wrap the excess around the cone and add some hot glue to secure it.
Using the scissors cut a 4 x 5 inch section of the microfiber cloth, this will be the beard. I trimmed it down so it was more of a triangle shape and looked more like a beard. Hot glue this onto the cone about ¾ of the way up the cone.
I stuffed some of the pieces of the microfiber cloth into the foot portion of the sock. I felt this made it more sturdy and helped give the hat some shape. I rolled the bottom edge of the sock so it would create a trim for the hat and placed it onto the top portion of the cone. Use hot glue to secure.
I trimmed about an 16 inch section of the berry garland and wrapped it around the hat to help the hat hold its shape but also to give it a wintery look
Add some hot glue to the bead and place at the bottom of the trim of the hat!

You are using a picture of a Gonk not a gnome…the difference–Gonks do not show eyes…Gnomes show their eyes…google-ize them…
Cyn Gagen says
Gnome is often used as an umbrella term to describe a variety of creatures such as Gonks, Tomte, and Nisse. In many stories found in folklore, creatures called gnomes hide their eyes under their hats because they live in burrows and the sunlight hurts their eyes. Most people are more familiar with the term gnomes than they are with some of the other creatures often considered to be a type of gnome.
