Valentine's Day Heart Cookies

What could be better for Valentine's Day than these heart cookies? They're a classic for this holiday and much loved by kids and adults alike.

These cookies are easy to make and decorate. You can get the kids involved, let them spread the frosting, and add the sprinkles, too!

Ingredients

Cookies Ingredients:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup oat or almond milk

Frosting ingredients:

  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 ½ cup icing sugar
  • Red food colouring
  • Sprinkles of your choice
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Add egg, milk, and butter to the bowl of dry ingredients. Use a hand mixer to beat the ingredients for 3 minutes
  4. Wrap the mixture in a cling film and place in a freezer for 30 minutes.
  5. When ready roll out dough, using a heart shaped cookie cutter cut out a cookie and place them on a parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes until golden and risen.
  7. To prepare frosting: Mix cream cheese, the cream and icing sugar. Use a hand mixer until fully incorporated
  8. Add food colouring, stir, and keep adding until strong red is reached.
  9. Frost cookies using a spoon then decorate with sprinkles.
