Ingredients

  • 20 oz bag white chocolate chips or white candy melts
  • 2 cups milk chocolate hot chocolate mix
  • 1 –1½ cups mini dehydrated marshmallows
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup orange candy melts

Instructions

To make the hot chocolate bombs

  1. Melt the white chocolate chips or candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring well between each round, until smooth.
  2. Spoon melted chocolate into each cavity of a hot chocolate bomb mold. Use the back of the spoon to draw the chocolate up the sides, making sure the entire cavity is coated. Allow to set.
  3. Once set, add a second layer of melted chocolate around the top edge of each cavity where the two halves will join. A thicker edge helps the bombs seal more securely. Be careful not to add too much chocolate — you want room for the cocoa mix and marshmallows. Allow to set completely.
  4. Carefully remove the chocolate sphere halves from the mold.
  5. Warm a frying pan over low heat. Gently melt the rim of one sphere by placing it briefly on the pan.
  6. Fill that half with hot chocolate mix and mini marshmallows.
  7. Melt the rim of a second shell half on the pan, then immediately place it on top of the filled half to seal the bomb. Gently press and smooth the seam, removing any excess melted chocolate. Set aside and repeat with remaining bombs.

To decorate

  1. Melt the dark chocolate chips and orange candy melts separately. Transfer each to its own piping bag.
  2. Snip a small hole in the dark chocolate bag and pipe two larger circles for the eyes and several small dots for the coal mouth.
  3. Snip a small hole in the orange candy melt bag and pipe a small triangle for the carrot nose. Allow all decorations to set fully.

To enjoy

  1. Place one hot chocolate bomb in a mug. Heat 8–12 ounces of milk or water — the hotter it is, the better the “melting snowman” effect. Slowly pour the hot liquid over the bomb and stir well. Let cool slightly before drinking and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

Storage: Store hot chocolate bombs in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 months.

Helpful tips:
If your chocolate looks thick or grainy while melting, slow down and stir frequently — overheating is usually the culprit.
Dehydrated mini marshmallows work best inside the bombs because they take up less space and store well long-term.
If a seam cracks, you can “glue” it back together with a little melted chocolate applied using a spoon or piping bag.

Easy variations:
Use peppermint hot chocolate mix for a festive twist.
Swap the milk chocolate mix for white hot chocolate for an all-white cocoa bomb.
Add a sprinkle of crushed candy cane or mini chocolate chips inside for extra texture.
