Inspired by one of my favorite blogs Brocante Home (who was in turn inspired by a feature in Harper’s Bazaar written by Diana Vreeland), Why Don’t You is a week’s worth of ideas for adding a little something special to your life. Simple ideas for lovely days!
Pick and choose what sparks your interest and fits into your schedule. Or use these simple ideas for special days as inspiration for coming up with your own ideas. Seasonally appropriate (at least for most people in the western hemisphere), these are ways to bring more joy and organization into your life.

WHY DON’T YOU? – SIMPLE IDEAS FOR LOVELY DAYS
PAUSE AND REMEMBER
It’s Remembrance Day in some locations and Veteran’s Day in the United States. Wherever you are, this is a good week to take a moment to pause and remember.
If you need some, I’ve got some good ideas for how to teach your children about the meaning of Remembrance Day.
TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF
Things only get busier from here on out. For me, it’s only once we get to about the middle of January that I actually feel like I have time to take a breath. Please please please, make yourself a priority!
As I’m always saying, self care doesn’t need to be complicated. It doesn’t need to cost much nor does it need to take much time. Even just 5-10 minutes to regroup during your day can make a huge difference.
I’ve got more than 100 Ideas for Taking Care of Yourself in case you’re struggling with quick and easy ideas.
MAKE A BIG POT OF SOUP OR STEW
The weather is getting chillier (we’ve even had a bit of snow!) and this is the time of year most people are looking for cozy, comfort foods to warm up with. There’s not much that fits the bill better than soup or stew.
The advantages of making a big pot of soup or stew go beyond how warming and delicious it is. As it simmers away on the stove, your home is filled with those lovely aromas. You start feeling cozy even before you eat! And it’s just as easy to make a double batch so you can keep some in your freezer for anytime the homemade soup craving hits.
My hearty lasagna soup is a wonderful one to try that’s always a hit!
GIVE YOUR HAIR A DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT.
This is the time of year when cold winds outside and heated air inside take their toll on my hair. It gets drier than ever – brittle and lifeless. So, I like to start stepping up the extra conditioning treatments and hair masks as soon as that first leaf changes colors!
Every night, I gently apply a leave-in Argan oil treatment to my hair. I like to squirt some out into my hand, rub my hands together, and then stroke them through my hair to distribute it. This particular STYLING TREATMENT OIL is my current favorite and it’s reasonably priced, especially since you use such a tiny amount.
Once a week (twice if I’ve been outside a lot and it’s really taking a toll on my hair!), I use a DEEP CONDITIONING HAIR MASK when I shower. I tend to put it on my hair and let it sink in while I do other things like shaving my legs and giving myself a facial.
JAZZ UP YOUR FALL OUTERWEAR.
No matter how cute my coat, hat, scarf, and gloves are, I sometimes feel like the outfit I’m presenting to the world is a bit boring. After all, my “fun” clothes tend to be covered up by the outerwear so people just see the same thing over and over again.
So, this year I’m checking out fun ways to style scarves. I don’t want to take up space with a ton of different scarves, but having a few on hand, along with an arsenal of ideas on different ways to wear them is going to spice up my fall and winter wardrobe!
MAKE SOME HANDMADE HOLIDAY GIFTS
Okay, I know it’s only November but really, this time of year flies by and if you want to give some handmade gifts, you need to get started. Some of you might even be thinking it’s too late but I’ve got some really simple ideas for you – many of them can be made in an evening!
In fact, these handmade holiday gift ideas are ones you can make while you watch TV! It doesn’t get much easier than that.
