Weekly Meal Plan January 28 to February 3

Well, we finally got winter here. Not a lot of snow at all, but it sure has been cold. REALLY cold! In fact, tomorrow, we’re supposed to be expecting even colder temperatures and some snow squalls. Fortunately, I have nowhere to go this week and can easily hunker down all warm and cozy if needed!

Today we spent a lovely day celebrating the 80th birthday of one of my favorite people. She’s a dear soul with such a huge heart and it was wonderful to get to spend time with her. Coming up the rest of the week, my time will be spent working and playing with my grandson!

He’s growing so fast and just loves sitting in his high chair, having a snack and watching me prepare dinner. I’m sure it won’t be long until he’s right beside me, helping. That’s how I learned to cook, alongside my mom and grandmothers. Do you get your kids into the kitchen?

This Week’s Meals

You will find that most of these meals are under $10 based on prices (sale prices where possible) in London, Ontario, Canada. We are feeding a family of 4 – 3 adults and 1 toddler, all with healthy appetites. We generally have some leftovers from our meals and if these aren’t being used as part of another meal, they are used for lunches throughout the week.

Prices are based mostly on those at No Frills and FreshCo, the two grocery stores we frequent most often. This week Food Basics and Shoppers Drug Mart have a few good deals and they are very close to our home too. Note: at this time of year, we are mostly using frozen vegetables as they tend to be better quality and have more nutrients than fresh.

Often we have these items on hand already because we stock up when they go on sale but I’ve highlighted some of the special deals we’re taking advantage of in the meal plan below.

Monday

Lemon tarragon chicken burgers, oven sweet potato fries, peas

Ground chicken is $2.88 lb and burger buns are $1.99 at Food Basics.

Tuesday

Porcupine meatballs, egg noodles, green beans, carrots

Ground beef is $2.88 lb at Food Basics

Wednesday

Bacon wrapped chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots

Chicken drumsticks and thighs are $1.77 lb at No Frills. I usually use boneless chicken but this is such a great deal and it will work just fine!

Thursday

Apple bacon pork chops (SC), roasted potatoes, spinach, sautéed cabbage

We still have pork chops in the freezer but if you live near a Metro store, they have them for $1.77 lb this week.

Friday

Grilled cheese sandwiches (SS) (MF), tomato soup, raw veggies and Ranch dip

Cheese is $3.97 for 460g at Food Basics

Saturday

Sloppy Joes (SS), raw veggies and Ranch dip, fruit cocktail

Ground beef is $2.88 lb at Food Basics, Ranch dressing $1.99 bottle at Food Basics

Sunday

Lemon Garlic Roast chicken (PLO – saving leftovers for next week), roasted potatoes and carrots

Whole chickens are $2.99 lb at Food Basics

Breakfasts and Lunches

Leftovers

Canned soups.

Eggs

Pancakes (we always have mix on hand)

Oatmeal

Cold cereal

Yogurt

Toast with jam or peanut butter

Sandwiches – lunch meat or chicken or cheese or cucumber and onions, selection depending on what’s on hand and on sale that week

Salads
