I was sent products so that I could try out Truvia® Baking Blend for myself and share my experience with you. As always, these opinions are my own honest opinions of the product. Please be sure to scroll down for a couple of really yummy recipes and a fun baking giveaway!
Have you tried Truvia® (a Stevia based sweetener) yet? I’ll be honest (I always am with you!) – when I first tried it as a substitute for sugar in my baking, I wasn’t really pleased with the outcome. That is, until I tried the new Truvia® Baking Blend. This stuff is AWESOME y’all!
Truvia® Baking Blend is a blend (which you probably already figured out) of Truvia® sweetener and sugar. This blend allows you to still get a sugar-like flavour in your recipes but with 75% fewer calories per serving than sugar. How awesome is that? My mom is diabetic and she has often mentioned how difficult it’s been to find a sweetener that works well in baking. This would allow her that special treat now and then with far less sugar to be concerned about! Not only does the baking blend provide a sugar-like taste but it also gives a sugar-like texture and moistness and your baked goods will still bake and brown as if made with sugar alone.
One of the other things I love about Truvia® Baking Blend is the packaging design. It comes in a 680g bag with a CLOSEABLE, easy pour spout. Seriously!!! It’s the little things, you know? With a dog that goes in and out of the back kitchen door multiple times a day, I have to be concerned about insects getting in and invading my baking supplies but this keeps it closed really well and is so darn convenient to use,
Truvia® Baking Blend is available at: Walmart, Loblaws (including various banner stores), Safeway, London Drugs and IGA BC Suggested retail price: $8.99
Some important things to know about using Truvia® Baking Blend in your baking: When baking, use 1⁄2 cup (125ml) of Truvia® Baking Blend in place of 1 cup (250ml) of sugar. A 1⁄2 cup of Truvia® Baking Blend has 190 calories and provides the same sweetness as 1 cup of sugar that has approximately 760 calories.
Here’s a handy dandy conversion chart you can use for your Truvia® Baking Blend baking:
Here are two fantastic recipes using Truvia® Baking Blend – one for Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins and one for Chocolate Chip Cookies. I’ve tried them both and let me tell you, both of those foods are family favourites and we are VERY fussy about them. I’m happy to report that both recipes passed the Gagen Family taste test with flying colours!

I love baking, but I do it relatively infrequently, however, it is the Holidays, and my hubby also loves to bake! He loves to make cupcakes this time of year and, when I do bake, I have always loved to make pies. They are so versatile, and l love making my own crust! Also, when I have a “wild hair”, specifically around the Holidays, I love to find a baking recipe, something new, that I have never attempted before, and dive right in! I have discovered some amazing homemade goodies that way – cream puffs, fruit pies – I have been particularly interested in trying a buttermilk pie at home recently – YUM!!
