Transitions in your Daily Schedule #Take5

Do you build transition time into your daily schedule? I find this a vital practice for maintaining my energy throughout the day, staying focused on what’s most important, and avoiding brain burnout. Take 5 minutes to refresh and refocus and add transitions to your daily schedule.

building transitions into your daily schedule

Minute 1: Consciously clear your head and take some long, slow, deep breaths.

Minutes 2-4: Do some simple and gentle stretches. You can do any that you prefer or follow this easy plan. Reach up high and stretch your arms and body towards to the sky. Lift your right hand over your head and bend at the waist to the left side. Repeat on the other side. Raise both hands over your head and bend from the waist towards the floor. Allow your hands to dangle gently towards the floor but don’t push it. Stand up straight again. Place your hands on your hips and rotate gently at the waist to the right. Return to the middle and repeat on the left. Turn your head to one side and then to the other. Gently bend at the neck as if to touch your ear to your shoulder. Only go as far as feels comfortable and provides a bit of a stretch. Repeat on the other side. Lift up your shoulders as if shrugging. Release. Pull your shoulders back and squeeze your shoulder blades towards each other.

Minute 5: Debrief. Review your day so far. Look at what you’ve accomplished and give yourself a pat on the back. Review what’s left to be done and regroup so you can complete the remaining priority items.

What do you do to transition throughout your day?
