Summer Fun Activities for Kids Day Five

This is the last day of these fun ideas for this week but I’m going to make this a regular weekly feature throughout the summer each Friday.

Today I’m sharing some art ideas for kids:

~ Fill a glass with water.  Put it on a window sill in bright sunlight, extending a bit over the edge.  Place some white paper on the floor under the glass so that a rainbow forms on the paper.  Let the kids paint or colour the rainbow they see on the paper.

~ Cut some light pieces of cardboard (like from cereal boxes) into strips.  Use a heavier piece of cardboard as a background.  The kids can glue the strips on edge onto the background, curving and bending some of them into various shapes and designs.  Hang this up near a strong source of light so that the design will cast interesting shadows.

~ Use those plastic six pack rings for a good purpose.  The kids can hang them down from a stick and then weave yarn, string, ribbon, strips of paper (a light paper like tissue paper would be great) or fabric through them.  They can add dangles of feathers, buttons, beads and so on and place this in a breezy spot.

~ Or use your fence as a surface for weaving.  The kids can use rope, ribbon, yarn, grasses and reeds, and other such items through the chain-link or slats of the fence.  You can even add things like bags of suet, fruits, and other such items for the birds and other animals around.
