Many years ago, my mom and I lived in the same apartment building. One day, when Mom went to pour herself a glass of water, she was in for quite a shock. You see, a couple weeks prior to this, she had put one of those cleaners into her toilet – you know the kind that turns your toilet water blue? Well, imagine her surprise when she saw blue water coming out of her kitchen faucet. Being a caterer, my mom had connections with the health department. She contacted one of the health inspectors who tested the water for us. Our worst fears were confirmed and our water was badly contaminated. Mom and I hadn’t been feeling well for a while, and she had open sores all over her face and the doctor had been unable to find the cause. Now we knew why. You don’t expect, living in a country like Canada, to be dealing with the effects of tainted water but it happens. Nearly 30 years later, we are both still dealing with the ill effects this had on our health.
So, when I heard about the Strauss WaterBar, I was intrigued and excited to have the opportunity to check it out.
It was love at first sight. I have tried many different options when it comes to having clean water for me and my family. I was concerned about buying bottled water and the effect all those plastic bottles were having on the environment. Those water coolers – not only do they take up a lot of room, but I’m just not capable of lifting and changing those large bottles of water. Then there’s the filtered water dispenser in our fridge option. Built right into the refrigerator and coming out of our existing water line, it seemed like the perfect choice. And then the filter light turned yellow. Yellow means that the filter is going to need to be changed soon. I started calling around to order a new one. No one within 100 kms of my home carries the filter and when I looked for it online, I couldn’t find one that would deliver to Canada. So that means having it delivered to my sister’s home in Arkansas and then having her mail it to me. So. Much. Hassle.
The Strauss WaterBar solves all of these issues.
Because it’s hooked up to your home’s water line, you have an unlimited source of clean water – no more bottles that can run out! It’s far more compact than those big water coolers and quite frankly, much sexier too. It comes in two different designs and a wide range of colours. I already picked out a beautiful turquoise one to match my new kitchen makeover.
It dispenses not only cold water but hot and tepid water as well!!! How many other water dispensers do that? You can even customize the temperatures to your tastes. (There is no such thing as water that’s too cold for me and I like my tea piping hot). You know what else you can customize on the Strauss WaterBar? The amount it dispenses! I have my favourite drinking glasses, water bottles, pitchers, and mugs and I can set up the WaterBar to dispense just the right amount for these.
This all sounded great to me until a question popped in my head. Hmmm, if it’s set to dispense just the right temperature of water at all times with just the touch of a button doesn’t that mean that it’s going to be using up a lot of electricity, even at times when I’m not using the machine? That seems to defeat the eco-friendly aspects of the machine. Not so. It has an energy saving mode that addresses that issue. So, let’s say I get up at 7 every morning. I can set the machine to “wake up” at 6 so that the water is nice and cold for my lemon water and nice and hot for my Earl Grey. Perfect! AND, since I travel a lot, I can program it to go into energy saving mode while I’m away too!
Another concern I had was the possibility of someone (a child, or in my case a pet) accidentally dispensing the hot water and scalding themselves. The hot water is is maintained at 92-96°C – perfect for hot beverages and with the touch of a button, this can be boosted right up to a boiling temperature of 99°C. To keep kids (and pets – I promise you, my cats would figure out how to dispense water!) safe, there is a safety lock that you can put on preventing them from accessing the hot water.
Not only did I have the opportunity to see the Strauss WaterBar in action, but I got to try some of the great tasting, chilled water from it as well. What made it different than bottled water or other water purification systems? Well, it was the purest tasting water I’ve ever had. In the Strauss WaterBar, the water is passed through a three stage filtration system and then the chilled water is exposed to UV lamp purification as well. This system allows the essential minerals to remain in the water while removing 99.9% of the bacteria and viruses as well as dechlorinating the water. None of that chlorine taste or metallic or sulfur taste that I’ve experienced with water before. All too often, I avoid drinking water – I’ve just never been a big “fan” but this water was so delicious that I could easily see myself increasing my water consumption (and reaping the health benefits of it!).
Oh and remember my difficulties in getting a new filter for my fridge water dispenser? Those are problems of the past with the Strauss WaterBar. When you purchase or rent (yes you can rent one – how awesome is that?) a WaterBar, Strauss Water will send out the filters right to your home. You don’t have to remember to order them, you don’t have to go searching for your ordering information and model number – they’ve taken all that frustration away and they simply send them out to you as part of your purchase/rental. EASY PEASY!
For over 40 years, Strauss Water has been a world leader in water purification and now they’ve set off “Water’s Next Wave” with the Strauss WaterBar. It’s a convenient, eco-friendly, and much healthier way to access delicious tasting drinking water in your home. I really like how you can adjust the size, all my water bottles vary.
We don’t have the best water in the place where I live, so having this would be so beneficial.

There is so much about this that I love. I’m a tea drinker and the idea of having hot water at the touch of a button, without having to turn on the kettle and steam the whole place up, makes me giddy with excitement, I’m super impressed at the whole being able to program it to be “on” during the hours you’re awake. How clever! Overall the thing just sounds amazing.

I love the sleek look of the water bar, and that it comes in so many colours. Time to get rid of the kettle on the counter and replace it with one of these!
