I’m not a huge shopper – by that, I mean that I’m not one of those people who likes to go shopping every Saturday, browsing for hours and hours on end. Oh I like to browse some but the getting in and out of the car and driving from store to store, walking up and down all the aisles of every single one of those stores and all of that is just tedious. Maybe it’s partly because ever since my car accident, all of that walking around and such can get very painful for me. So, when I need to run errands, if I can find a store like Shopper’s Drug Mart that allows me to do some “one stop shopping”, you can bet I’m a loyal customer. In fact, within just a couple kilometers of my house, there are 4 SDMs and that makes it so handy to just pop in, get what I need, browse a little, and get home! And this time, I’m inviting you along on my shopping trip!
On this particular day, I needed to get a prescription filled and to pick up some more shampoo and deodorant. It wasn’t even a week after Easter, so I thought I’d have a peek to see if there were any Easter items left on clearance too. One of the things I love about this location is that when you enter the store, you walk in by way of the Beauty Boutique.
It’s aptly named because you do feel like you’re in a high end beauty boutique along the lines of Sephora. The displays feel rich and luxurious and there is always a staff member there to greet you warmly as you come in. I like that touch. With brands like Dior, Smashbox, and Lise Watier, I always feel like I’m surrounded by high quality indulgences.
I’ve had beauty consultations in the store before and they really know their stuff. My skin went through some changes and they were able to successfully assess what it needed and give me just the right products for it. I want to get them to show me how to make the perfect smoky eye so I’ll be all set for my daughter’s wedding!
Heading back to put my prescription in to be filled, I check out the extensive display of more natural alternatives. I have no problems using traditional Western medicine when I need it (like today when I’m picking up my EpiPen), but if there are herbs, vitamins, or other supplements I can take to help build up my immune system and treat my conditions without the use of heavier medications, I’m all for that too. I appreciate that Shopper’s has a huge selection of these items for me to choose from. This and their wellness education programs make me feel like they are there to help and support me as part of my health care team.
I’m always excited to browse through the makeup, hair, and nail care sections and see what’s new and what’s hot. This display of Sally Hansen at home gel nail kits really caught my attention. It’s the kind of gel nails you have done in a salon and now in a home treatment – it even comes with it’s own little LED lamp! How cool is that?
I’m happy to see lots of sale signs around the store. There are employees all over putting out new stock and updating displays and I can see why at these prices. My favorite hair dye is on sale – once I double check my shade at home, I’ll be coming back to buy a couple boxes!
These days wherever I go, I always check out their baby section. There are 3 babies being born in my family this summer and we’re all very excited about it! I see some great prices on little toys and other baby items.
Before I headed to the checkout, I took a look through the photography section of the store. I’m in the market for a new camera and I know that SDM has a decent selection of them at good prices. I found several I was very interested in for excellent sale prices! I have to say, I was eyeing the Wii systems there too!
I finally end up getting a few Easter clearance items, a couple of Mother’s Day cards, a tiny little box of chocolate to indulge in, some pretty new colors of nail polish, hair elastics, and of course, the deodorant and shampoo I went there for! I have several other things picked out that I’ll be heading back to purchase in a couple days too. Of course, I made sure to use my Optimum card. I collect the points throughout the year, saving them up so that I can use them at Christmas to help ease my holiday budget.

What about you? Are you a Shopper’s fan? I love that it seems to be a store for “the whole me”. What’s your favorite part about it?

My husband used to work at Shopper’s before we got married and he moved to the States. He was one of the lead merchandiser’s being groomed for management in Winnipeg. Great store! Cheers, Doc Angi
