Happy National S’mores Day!  The first recipe for S’mores was published in a Girl Scout guide book back in 1927.  Since then, it has become a summer and camping favourite and has been adapted into many other products and recipes.  There are s’mores granola bars, s’mores ice cream, s’mores cookies, and so much more!

Recently I was lucky enough to be able to hang out in Hershey’s Camp Bondfire S’mores Suite (photos at http://flickr.com/hersheyschocolate) at BlogHer 2012.  Sitting around the campfire, making s’mores in a suite at the Hilton?  Yep! Decorated with the help of Walmart to look like an actual campsite complete with bonfire, it was a welcome place for a little relaxation from the hectic pace of BlogHer.  And you can visit Camp Bondfire too via the Hershey’s Facebook Page.

“Now through September 7, S’mores fans nationwide can visit Camp Bondfire at the Hershey’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hersheys), an interactive Facebook application where families will discover new ways to “bond” around the campfire and create S’mores-inspired memories all summer long. Camp Bondfire will also offer weekly tips, stories and activities focused on a variety of themes and encourage fans to join the fun by registering to be a “Camper of the Week” for a chance to win outdoor prizes like a backyard fire pit. Campers can also capture their own memories and share their photos in the Fireside Memory Book at Camp Bondfire.” (from Hershey’s press release)

Since it was raining out today, I couldn’t make any actual S’mores but I did come up with this quick and easy recipe for S’mores Brownie Bars.

Ingredients:

One package of brownie mix – I used Duncan Hines Milk Chocolate Chunk mix – follow package directions

1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

1 Hershey chocolate bar – I used dark cherry almond – break into pieces

2 cups mini marshmallows

Instructions:  Prepare brownie mix according to package directions.  Once you have spread it into an 8 by 8 or 9 by 9 inch square pan, sprinkle on the graham cracker crumbs.  Bake as per package directions but cut the time back by about 3 minutes.  Remove from oven and sprinkle the pieces of Hershey’s chocolate bar and the mini marshmallows over top.  Put back in the oven for 3-5 minutes, until the marshmallows are golden brown.  Allow to cool on a wire rack before cutting into squares and serving.  Yummers!
