As a former teacher and as a mom, I’m always very interested in any opportunities to promote, support, and further the education of our future adults. Just in the time since I went to Teachers’ College back in 1991 and now, the world has changed dramatically. As quickly as the world is changing, teachers must change and adapt as well so that they can provide their students with the best learning opportunities possible. Technology has changed the way students are learning and making it possible for educators to go beyond the walls of the classroom. I remember when we first got the internet at my school. We were taken into a training session to learn about it and all of us had eyes as big as saucers when we saw the possibilities. Then we introduced it to the students and a whole new world opened up for us all.
That’s why when I was asked if I would share information about the upcoming Microsoft Summit for teachers, I was happy to say yes. Microsoft believes that teachers are the most important force in transforming education. As a leader in technology, they are inviting teachers to a day of fun and learning this Saturday, April 11th from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The day will include hands-on demos and discussions about the tools today’s students need in order to be prepared to successfully compete for 21st century jobs. LEARNstyle CEO, DJ Cunningham and Desire2Learn will share best practices and speak to the relevance of technology in the lives of 21st-century learners.
