Have you ever been to Monster Jam? It is such a fun way to spend an afternoon with family and friends! There’s so much action, so much to see, and when those engines start roaring, you can actually feel it! The excitement is in the air and the roar of the crowd becomes infectious.
We like to buy the VIP pit passes so we can head there early and check out the trucks up close. As we walked through surveying our favourites and discovering a few new ones, we all start to make our picks for who’s going to win. I usually go with fan favourite (and champion) Northern Nightmare but this time, I chose Zombie. It was Zombie’s first appearance here and I decided to root for “him” this time.
If you haven’t been before, you might not realize that this is indeed a competition and the trucks are judged in racing and freestyle events. Freestyle is judged on a variety of criteria including hitting the most obstacles, jumps, wheelies, and donuts. They get extra points for doing a spectacular stunt – something with a real wow factor and deductions are made for things like going in reverse, rollovers, and crashing!
My favourite part of it is watching these huge trucks perform seemingly impossible actions. It’s hard to believe that something so big and presumably so heavy could fly through the air the way they do! Judging by all the ooohs and ahhhhhs of the audience, I’d say they loved this too!
Is Maple Leaf Monster Jam heading to your neck of the woods? They’re coming to Hamilton, Ontario on April 23-24 and Halifax, Nova Scotia May 28-29. You know, it’s not always easy to find something the entire family enjoys AND that’s affordable. Monster Jam fits the bill. I highly recommend it for your next fun family outing!
