The winter months are perfect for sipping hot chocolate while cuddled under your favourite blanket with some cozy slippers and a good book or movie. While you may wish you were doing those things, you might still need to head out to work, which somewhat foils your plans of a cozy day at home without having to brave the snow and blustery wind.
You may feel like you are missing out on what could possibly the coziest season of the year, but you don’t have to. There are several ways to pamper yourself this winter (even if it has to wait until after work!), that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the snow again the next day.
HOW TO PAMPER YOURSELF THIS WINTER
Grab a Hot Chocolate
On the way home from work, make a quick stop to pick up your favourite hot chocolate for you and your family. Get extra whipped cream, you deserve it. If you don’t want to stop on the way home try some amazing hot chocolate recipes at home and then have a taste testing to see which you and your family like best.
Have Cozy Blankets Waiting
Before you head off to work, take your blankets and place them in the dryer. When you get home for the day, turn on the dryer for 10 minutes and heat them up while you get settled in. Once you go to grab them, they will be warm and comforting as you sip your hot chocolate.
You could also get one of those heated throws. They are warm and cozy and perfect for a comfy night of reading on the couch. Just be sure to read the instructions and use them safely!
Slippers
This may seem simple but always make sure that your favourite slippers are waiting for you at the door, so you can change out of your work boots and shoes right away. This change is a wonderful welcome home.
Pajamas
There is no shame in coming home from work and changing into your pajamas right away. Just have them folded on the bed waiting for you. Or pop them in the dryer with your cozy blanket so they’ll be nice and warm when you put them on.
Order In
Rather than spending your free time making an elaborate dinner for you and your family, cuddle under your warmed blankets and order some food from your favourite restaurant. While you can’t do this every day, this is a nice treat for those days you just want to relax.
Slow Cook
If ordering your meal isn’t in the cards, have one waiting in the slow cooker when you get home. There are several delicious comfort food meals that can be made in the slow cooker and are perfect for dishing out after a long days work. Find a slow cooker recipe that works best for your family and you will have more time to relax after work.

Take care of your winter skin and hair.
If your skin and hair are anything like mine in the winter, they need a little extra love over and above the usual grooming routine. For my hair, I love to apply a nourishing oil about once or twice a week. I put this on before bed, making sure to protect my pillow with a soft towel so I don’t get oil all over my pillowcase. In the morning, if there are still any remnants of it (there often aren’t!), I just hop in the shower to rinse it away.
Once or twice a week while in the shower, I apply a hair mask in place of my usual conditioner. Since it has to sit on my hair for a few minutes, I use this time to exfoliate my skin with a commercial exfoliating cream or a homemade sugar scrub.
A nourishing body oil (baby oil works well for me too!) is another thing I use once or twice a week. I rub it all over my skin and then give my body a quick rinse to wash away the excess.
This post has some more ideas for taking care of your feet and this one offers suggestions for pampering your hands.
While these things may seem simple, they are sure to bring the coziness to you and your home so you won’t feel like you’re missing out. Taking some time to pamper yourself this winter can make all the difference!
After all, what is more relaxing than sipping hot chocolate and enjoying comfort food in your pajamas and slippers under a blanket fresh out of the dryer? Can’t you just feel the tension slipping away?
