How to be Persuasive and Get Your Way

There are many things I like about living alone. One of them is the fact that I rarely have to compromise on what I want to do. Take Netflix for example. When you discover a new favourite show or movie on Netflix, the last thing you want to do is watch it alone. I mean, my daughter and I can’t get through an episode of Gilmore Girls or Grey’s Anatomy without talking through the things happening on the show together. It often drives others around us crazy but it’s always been one of the ways we relate and share our feelings with each other. And it’s just more fun to share our favourite shows together.

Now, for the most part, my daughter and I have the same taste in shows. But, we often have this funny little dance we do when it comes to new shows. One of us hears about a new show and decides it sounds good. We tell the other one about it and suggest watching it. The other one thinks they won’t like the show and doesn’t want to watch it. Of course, if we can just convince the other one to give it a chance, 9 times out of 10, we end up with a new favourite for both of us. Now add my son-in-law to the mix and the initial persuasion is sometimes more difficult.

With a home full of potential binge-mates, the perfect couch partner is just one persuasive conversation away from joining you. Chances are you’ve heard every excuse in the book: I’m too big for cartoons now. I don’t like scary stuff. That movie’s for little kids. Despite the excuses they might bring to the table, no one beats mom and dad when it comes to the power of (entertainment) persuasion. Certain genres are like Brussels sprouts: people think they hate them, but once you cover them in bacon, they can’t get enough. Atypical is bringing a new kind of family to the screen in the latest original series now streaming on Netflix. Atypical is a coming of age story that follows Sam, an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum and his journey for love and independence.

And of course, being huge Marvel fans, we’ll definitely be tuning in to see Daredevil,Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist unite in Marvel’s The Defenders!

The little ones can check out some familiar faces this month with brand new adventures from Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dinotrux and Dreamworks Dragons: Race to the Edge.
