Hello everyone! I am Abbie from Lovin’ Our Chaos, my little blog about life, love and all things craft-worthy. I am also known as mom to my three kids and girlfriend to my darling husband. I am a lover of God, life, big bows, feathers and all things sparkly. I’m a little compulsive, a lotta crafty and always busy! A HUGE thank you to Cynthia for allowing me to guest post here at Cynchronicity! I have been looking forward to it and am so glad that I can share a little of my creativity here today!
Now that I have made your acquaintance, I would like to share a couple of my flaws…I am impatient, sometimes impulsive, and certainly not an expert seamstress. But quite honestly, this isn’t always a bad thing. Take for instance today’s guest tutorial. I purchased this v-neck ‘boyfriend style’ shirt from the clearance bin at JoAnns. I held on to it, not exactly knowing what I wanted to do, but knowing that I wanted to embellish it. Sometimes I just like to try to see how something will work, so I decided to turn this t-shirt into a ruffled cardigan. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
T-shirt
Knit fabric, cut into strips
Sewing machine
Thread
Button
Ribbon
First, I cut my t-shirt down the middle, starting at the point of the v-neck.
Next, I took my pre-measured (2.5, 3″), pre-cut strips and sewed them down the side with a ruffle stitch.
I hand ruffled them, by pulling the outside stitch.
Then I pinned my ruffles on to the front of each ‘cardigan’ side and sewed them into place.
And now it is complete…hmm, not quite yet. Oh yes, I think it needs another embellishment and a ribbon tie. So taking leftover knit strips, I created a little scrap piece flower embellishment and sewed it onto the shirt, covering the little pocket. Bonus. I didn’t like that pocket anyway. 🙂
I added the button to the flower and cut two 6″ black pieces of 5/8″ ribbon for the tie.
I added the two ribbons to each side of the cardigan on the inside and voila…complete. One happy mama!
Want to see how it looks on me? Head on over to Lovin’ Our Chaos and get a glimpse! I love the way the ruffles fall down the front! Plus, see what Cynthia has cooked up today to share with my readers!
