My daughter recently came home from the United Kingdom, where she and her husband had lived for two years. Not only had she missed family, friends and familiar places, there were just some things she could not get overseas. Since the move was temporary, they never bothered to get a barbeque, so naturally they were looking forward to some great summer meals. In just the seven days they have been home, we have been to Montana’s Steakhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings and Boston Pizza, but lots of home cooking was in order, too.
A classic in our household is barbequed sausage with some sort of quick and easy side dish. What a great time to grill up some wieners and try out Seeds of Change.
We decided to try the Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic. It seemed like a nice pairing for our barbequed sausage meal. To kick it up a notch, we also decided to make a glaze for our sausages.
Barbequed Sausage with an Agave-Mustard Glaze and Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic
3 Tbsp Dijon mustard
5 Tbsp agave nectar
Several pinches of Applewood spice blend (to taste)
A good amount of black pepper (to taste)
1 package of sausages
1 pouch Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic
First, mix together the Dijon mustard, agave nectar, Applewood spice blend and black pepper in a small bowl. (At first I had tried equal parts mustard and nectar, but you could hardly taste anything but the mustard. When I added more nectar, however, it was quite sweet and needed a bit of heat to make it interesting. That’s when I whipped out the spices to throw in and it added the little bit of kick I needed.)
Next, fire up the grill. We decided to get the sausages on and starting to cook and brush the glaze on as we were going.
Cook the sausages all the way through, brushing more glaze on periodically.
Since the Quinoa & Brown Rice is so quick and easy to heat up, you can leave it until right as the sausages are coming off the grill. It only takes 90 seconds in the microwave! I served up the sausages on a bed of Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice with Garlic. It sure was a crowd pleaser! Dinner was ready in under 20 minutes and it couldn’t have been easier to prepare. It was delicious and nutritious and best of all, I can trust the quality behind the Seeds of Change because they are certified organic rice and ancient grain blends.
I sometimes hear my friends complaining that it’s “so much harder” to eat organic foods. They complain that they take longer to prepare and just don’t fit into their family’s busy lifestyle. I have to admit. I might just skip a meal rather than prepare one that’s going to take me a long time with my hectic schedule. That’s why I’m encouraging everyone to give Seeds of Change a try. It is the only certified organic, ready to heat rice and grain brand in Canada. Ninety seconds – that’s faster than fast food! And it’s so much tastier and better for you! Win-win!
As if all of that wasn’t enough, Seeds of Change has just launched its Seeds of Change Grant Program in Canada, encouraging community gardens across the country by donating 1% of sales to them. So, I guess really, it’s win-win-win!
