January is always such a rough month for me health wise. It never fails that by the end of the first or second week of the month, BOOM! I’m sick (I had the flu, now pneumonia as I type this!). In fact, in the past two weeks, my mom, two nieces, twin grand-nephews, and 5 friends are all sick with the flu. It’s not too surprising though. As the holidays wind down and your guests depart, all the energy you exuded over the past few weeks can leave you feeling spent. Not the best way to start the new year, but it’s exactly this time that we tend to be most prone to getting sick – when feeling a little run down.
To help start you off on the right foot this year and keep you going through the coldest months we wanted to highlight symptoms that you may be falling victim to a cold or flu – and what you can do to combat them.
Common signs of the flu and cold include the obvious cough, scratchy throat, congestion, runny nose, and even the subtle signs like fatigue, aches, pains and fever. It’s important to listen to your body and know when it’s telling you to slow down. Who else is guilty of ignoring those signals from your body and trying to push through anyway? (raising my hand here!)
As soon as you start to feel something coming on, use an all-in-one pain, fever and nausea reliever, such as Gravol™ Multi-symptom™. With naturally-sourced ginger and willowbark, it will help fight off that nasty Canadian cold, without leaving you feeling drowsy.
Even though it’s cold out, try to keep warm! Curl up into a nice cozy blanket with a hot cup of herbal tea, such as one made from chamomile. This can have a relaxing and calming effect as well as help with congestion and a sore throat. While I’m all snuggled up there, I like to hug a nice warm hot water bottle too. It helps take the chill off my body and because I wrap it up in a fuzzy fleecy cover, it just feels like I’m a little kid again cuddling with my favourite stuffed animal!
Sleep is underrated – plain and simple, but it’s about more than a simple beauty regime. It’s one of the most important rituals that your body needs to restore energy. So when you’re starting to feel a little under the weather, sit back and relax – your body is telling you that it needs rest! I like to have a movie marathon (old Audrey Hepburn movies work for me) in between napping.
What are some of your ways of fighting the cold and flu?
I’m so excited to be a Church & Dwight ambassador this year! Gravol is a trusted brand at our home and I’m happy to be sharing information about it with all of you. All opinions expressed on Creative Cynchronicity are my own.
