No, I’m not talking about some kind of drug induced thing….I’ve just noticed a bunch of bloggers doing these looks back at older posts and I thought I’d share one of my own.
We just celebrated my grand niece’s 2 birthday and it reminded me of some of the baby gifts I made for her including this diaper cake. Can you see her older brother behind the cake? He was trying to see how easy it would be to take apart!
Flickr, siti saad – I like how she wrapped baby blankets around the inner core of diapers.
When I first posted my blog on how to make these I said: I had seen pictures of these online but didn’t actually have any instructions in front of me when I started making it. I thought I could figure out how it was done without needing a tutorial. I did okay but once I got going, it started getting a bit unwieldy and I found instructions online and adjusted what I was doing. I used an entire package of Huggies diapers. We tend to have large babies in my family so I chose not to use the Newborn size as those only go up to 10 pounds. Instead I used the next size up which in the case of Huggies is called size 1 and they go up to 14 lbs. There were 66 diapers in the package.
What’s really ironic about all this is the whole part about “We tend to have large babies in my family”. My little grand niece is such a petite thing! She can still fit into 12 month sized clothing!
Here’s the same kind of idea done with towels – what a lovely gift for a bride-to-be or as a bridal shower centerpiece. I’ve even seen them done with tea towels, washcloths, t-shirts…pretty much anything that will roll up nicely…for pretty much any occasion!
