Father’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate dad! It doesn’t matter what you decide to do with your Father this year, the most important thing is that you take time out to spend with him. There is no need to break the bank and spend a lot of money on a flashy gift. Spending time together is priceless.
Fabulous Father’s Day Activities to Celebrate Dad
Plan a Day Out
No one knows your father as well as you do. Plan a day out around his personality and interests. Take him to baseball game, visit a museum or go to a farmer’s market. The possibilities are endless, and they don’t have to be expensive. One of the things my dad loved to do on Father’s Day was for my daughter and I to take him to the zoo! It’s a place we all loved so it was the perfect way to spend the day.
Cook with Him
Cook dad his favourite meal for dinner. Spending time together in the kitchen is a great way to bond. If your dad is more of a grill kind of guy, arrange a family get together and grill out in the backyard. My dad’s favourite food was pie so this was often an occasion that I made him a homemade pie to celebrate!
Spend Alone Time Together
If your dad has a favourite spot to visit for dinner, take him out just you and him. It doesn’t matter if he’s more of a fine dining kind of guy or a burgers and milkshakes kind of guy, the important thing is that you spend some one on one time together. You could even promise to continue this as a monthly event throughout the entire year.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors
When was the last time that you went fishing or hiking with your dad? Father’s Day is a great time to get outside and enjoy nature together. Pack a cooler full of drinks and snacks and get back to nature together. If your dad is more of a golfing kind of guy, you can still get outside and enjoy a round together. Check out places like Groupon for great deals.
Road Trip
There is nothing more freeing than the open road. Make a road trip playlist full of his favourite songs and set out on a road trip adventure together. Pack a picnic and make stops at small local shops, take in the sights and the sounds of the day and have some fantastic conversations. Road trips are an amazing way to reconnect. Dad a sports fan? You could set up an itinerary that is based on their favourite sports – maybe head to a sports museum, the birthplace of a favourite player, and check out a stadium or two.
Play Catch
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you probably have some amazing memories of playing catch with your dad in the backyard. Chances are, he enjoys those memories just as much as you do. Why not revisit them with a casual game of catch in the backyard? Don’t forget the mitts.
There are many fantastic ways to celebrate your dad on Father’s Day this year without breaking the bank. Remember, one of the most valuable things is the time you spend together.
