These Felt Ornaments are so quick and easy to make that you can easily whip up enough for the whole tree in one evening.

DIY QUICK AND EASY FELT ORNAMENTS

Craft Lightning projects are ones that can be completed in 15 minutes or less (minus drying time but the drying time on these ornaments is minimal). You can see more Craft Lightning Holiday Edition projects by scrolling down to the bottom of this post and clicking on the image there.

materials for felt ornaments

Materials needed for this project:

Scissors, glue (tacky glue works well), felt in two colors, a round shape to trace around (about 6-7 inches in diameter), pen or pencil for tracing, needle and thread, ribbon for an ornament hanger

Step One:

Trace a circle on each piece of felt and cut out.

Step Two:

Glue the two circles together (or you can use some embroidery floss and stitch around the outer edge to sew them together – this adds a different folksy look to the finished ornament)

Step Three:

Fold your double layered circle in half. Take a few stitches right at the center point of the edge.

Step Four:

Fold the circle in half the other direction. Take a few stitches again at the center point of the edge and through the point where you stitched in step three (where it all meets).

Step Five:

Flatten the ornament into a square and “fluff” out the sections where the color shows through from the other side.

Step Six:

Sew on a piece of ribbon to serve as the hanger for the ornament. You can glue this on if you’d prefer but I find the stitches help hold the shape of the ornament and help it maintain its flattened shape better.

That’s it! Hang it on your Christmas tree and enjoy!

You can also make these with fabric instead of felt. In that case for Step Two, you will need to put right sides of the fabric circles together and stitch around the edge (about 1/4 inch seam allowance – personally I’d use a sewing machine for this), leaving an opening for turning it. Turn right side out, fold the edges of the opening in, and top stitch all around the edge (1/8 inch seam allowance). Proceed with the remaining steps.
