Do you have your Mother’s Day gift yet? Here’s an idea you can make yourself in a matter of hours! My mom is a list-maker – she loves her lists and she loves to organize. You will often see her walking around with a clipboard and pen and I decided it was about time she had one that’s pretty.
Materials needed: A sheet of Wood Attitude, spray adhesive, a wood clipboard, colorful Washi tape, assorted embellishments such as stickers, rick rack, buttons, decorative flowers. Other items you’ll need that you likely have on hand – a good craft glue (I used Beacon’s 3 in 1) and a pair of scissors (I used my Westcott Titanium nonstick scissors – great for sticky products like Washi tape). You might also want to use a brayer to work out any wrinkles and air bubbles. OH and of course, you’ll need an inkjet printer to print out your images on the Wood Attitude. I used PicMonkey to create a collage of family photos and then sized it to 600 by 750 pixels (approximately 8 by 10 inches) so that it would fit onto the clipboard.
Print out your collage onto a sheet of Wood Attitude following package directions. Let this sheet sit for about 2 hours to allow the inks to thoroughly dry. Spray the clipboard with the spray adhesive and lay the printed Wood Attitude sheet picture side down onto the clipboard. As you can see from above, I’ve placed it image side down with the white backing sheet showing. I used a soft brayer and very gently rolled it over the surface of the backing sheet from the center out to work away the bubbles and wrinkles. Use a gentle hand when doing this so the Wood Attitude sheet doesn’t tear or move around.
Carefully peel away the backing sheet, revealing your images below. I used the Washi tape to cover the rest of the wood on the clipboard. I left the clip as is but if you wanted it a matching color, you could have spray painted it prior to adding the Wood Attitude or any embellishments. Add your desired embellishments and you’re done! What’s great about this project is that once it fully dries, it is completely functional as well as being so pretty that when not in use, it could be hung up on a wall as art!
A few notes: the wood on the clipboard is somewhat textured and this texture will show through the photos on the sheet of Wood Attitude. I like the texture it added but if you would prefer, find a smoother surface to apply it to. The spray adhesive grabs hold of the Wood Attitude sheet very quickly and it is tough to then adjust or move the sheet around, giving you one shot to put it on straight. If you would prefer, you could cut the pictures up and apply them separately so they’re a less finicky to work with.
